Briggs's Story

Briggs is the definition of a classic Border Collie gentleman. At around 10 years old and 54 pounds, this handsome boy is enjoying a well-earned, slower paced retirement after what was likely a lifetime as a rural working dog. These days, Briggs is much more interested in relaxing with his people than putting in long hours on the job—and he’s very good at it.

Briggs is an incredibly sweet and gentle soul who loves everyone he meets. He quickly becomes best friends with new people of all ages and is happiest when he’s near his humans, soaking up attention and pets. When he’s really content, he even gives a little “smile,” which is guaranteed to melt hearts.

True to his senior status, Briggs has is low energy and perfectly content lounging by your side while you work, watch TV, or just hand out together. If you’ve always loved BCs but weren’t sure about keeping up with their typical high energy, Briggs might be your perfect match!

He gets along well with other friendly dogs and currently lives peacefully with several in his foster home. While Briggs does not play much himself, he enjoys watching the action and will sometimes try to herd the other dogs in play. Because of his orthopedic issues, he would do best with dogs that won’t jump on him or wrestle in play. Briggs has not shown any interest in the chickens in his foster home. Although he has not been introduced to a cat yet, we believe this would not be an issue due to his gentle nature. But with any new animal intro- a slow introduction would be best.

Briggs doesn’t have much interest in toys—his favorite activity is simply being with his people and getting lots of affection. He’s house trained, walks nicely on leash, and is very trustworthy in the home without a crate. He’s a calm, easygoing companion who just wants a comfortable place to spend his golden years.

Due to arthritis and past orthopedic injuries, Briggs will need a home without many stairs. A single-level home or one with only a few steps to the yard would be ideal. He also isn’t able to jump into taller vehicles like SUVs, so a lower car or a ramp would help him get around comfortably.

If you’re looking for a mellow, loving companion who will happily keep you company and ask for nothing more than kindness and a comfy place to nap, Briggs is ready to be your best friend. This sweet old soul has so much love to give and would thrive in a calm home where he can enjoy the simple things—soft beds, gentle pets, and the company of his favorite people.

Due to our small volunteer team, we can’t respond to inquiries to this listing.
