Bowie's Story

I named this big boy boy after the western frontiersman Jim Bowie. Bowie doesn’t claim to be famous, but he does have a rugged look about him! It may be because he’s not had the best life so far. Looks can be deceiving because he’s really a sweetheart. He’s a four year-old 85 pound mixed breed that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 8/12. He was brought in by one of our officers. He’s got a gray muzzle. He has what I call sad eyes. They say eyes are the window to the soul, and I would say his eyes are pleading for a loving family. He did have mucus in his left eye that needed to be cleaned out. He was very patient while I did that. I was met in the kennel with a friendly greeting. He roamed around the yard investigating every nook and cranny. He very shortly wanted to go inside. He does not tolerate this heat and who can blame him? He does sit for treats and takes them gently. He’s well behaved. He doesn’t jump on you. He may not have had a lot of socialization, but he does respond well to attention. He does have a strong pull on a leash. He may be housebroken as it appeared that he had saved it until he got out into the yard. He was not interested in meeting other dogs, but if you do have other dogs, please ask the shelter for a dog test. Please don’t judge the book by the cover… he may not be the cutest dog at our shelter, but he’s one of the most deserving! He will need a big yard to stretch his legs in but would like to spend most the time in the house with his new family …especially with football season starting. He told me he’s a Cowboy fan. <br/>(He's available to foster or adopt!!!)
