Boss's Story

Meet Boss

Many are familiar with the well-known book/movie “The One and Only Ivan” where a gorilla spent years in a cage, his world small, artificial, and lonely, until he's rescued and introduced to life as it should have always been for a gorilla.
Well meet “The One and Only Boss” a dog, who similarly to Ivan, spent years locked up from the rest of the world in a cage tucked inside a garage. Like Ivan, Boss watched the world from the inside. He didn't know what grass felt like. He didn't know what a couch was. He didn't know that love could be soft, or that freedom could smell like fresh air and backyard breezes.

But everything changed in 2023 when Lucci's House stepped in and not only opened Boss's kennel door, but his whole world.

At first in his foster home, he was terrified. A house? A yard? A human who spoke gently and offered toys? It was all new. But Boss is brave. Slowly, he learned that the world outside his cage wasn't scary, it was beautiful. Now he naps on the couch. He plays with toys. He LOVES to be outside: to run around the yard and feel the soft grass under his paws, to listen to birds and wind and laughter, to watch cars go by like a philosopher on the porch. He cuddles. He feels.

Boss is six years old and weighs about 60 pounds. He's still learning, but has made so much progress over his time in his foster's care. Now he is finally ready to have his happily ever after in a loving forever home. But because of his past, he's not comfortable around other dogs or children. He simply never had the chance to learn how. But he's trying. He needs someone patient as he can still be nervous about new things. Someone who sees the quiet courage in a dog who's discovering life for the first time. Someone who will go slow, offer safety, and celebrate every small victory.

Boss isn't just a rescue. He's a survivor. He's the one and only Boss.
If you think you might be the person to help him, write his next chapter, reach out to Lucci's House.
