Boots's Story
Boots:
* How does the dog act around strangers, other dogs, cats, and children? Boots has a great demeanor. We actually took him to our son's class for show and tell and he did excellent with all the kids. Sat nicely, let them all pet on him, and didn't seem overwhelmed at all. He will chase after cats but has not had much interaction with them and doesn't seem aggressive. He acclimated very quickly to our busy household of other animals. He will go after chickens though...
* Do they have any resource guarding (food, toys, space)? Boots LOVES his food and needs a slow feeding bowl. I have seen him snap at other dogs when he is eating (but not people) so best to separate at dinner time.
* What are their favorite toys or activities? Boots loves to chew on anything and everything. He will pluck the stuffing out of any toy, so would suggest ones that are hard to chew or do not have stuffing in them. He's very playful.
* Do they know basic commands (sit, stay, come)? Boots is a young lab mix, so while he has a really great disposition, he doesn't listen that well, ha. He will come when you call him but other commands he doesn't know.
* Are they food-motivated? Yes, any and all food will please Mr. Bootsy.
* Are they house-trained? Do they have accidents? He has been in an outside area of our home so I do not know if he is house trained.
* Are they crate-trained? Not formally but he's done well in crates when in there for 4 hrs or so.
* What's their typical daily schedule (walks, feeding, sleep)?Boots has a designated area that he stays in with our other fosters. He eats in the morning around 7 am and in the evening around 4. We use a slow feeding bowl with him because he eats VERY fast. We let him out of the area throughout the day and go on 2 walks around the property, morning and evening. He is really good at listening when it's time to go back to his designated area and does well at night. I never hear him whine or bark much.
* How long can they be left alone, and where do they stay? If not with our family, Boots is with his doggie friends. I would suggest he have a companion animal as he would get lonely by himself for too long.
* How are they on a leash? He does pretty well on a leash.
* What do you know about their history (shelter, street, past owner)? I don't know much about his history except that he came to the shelter as a puppy. He had been there for quite a while by the time I took him to foster but he has adapted SO well and just wants to be loved. He acclimated to our household dynamic within a day or two. He's easy to love and take care of.
* Do they have any medical conditions, allergies, or need special food/medication? No specific issues, I have been giving him probiotics since he had parasites previously and the medicine can hurt their tummies but that's just to try and be proactive.
* What are their quirks or challenges you've noticed? No major quirks or challenges. Boots is pretty easy going. Sometimes he will jump on you when he's excited and he's a bigger dog but for a young lab, he's pretty mild mannered.
* What kind of adopter would be a good fit for them? I think Boots would adjust well to any kind of home but would do well with a companion dog to share life with. He loves being around other animals and playing.
