Boone's Story
Meet Boone

Vibe Check:
Retired from Ridglan Farms, wanting to forget what he has endured. Ready for the good life.

Fun Fact:
Boone is a sock thief. He steals them and carries them around like they are his prizes.

Rescue: Albert's Dog Lounge
Age: Adult
Size: Medium
Fostered in: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Origin Story:
Like all the beagles released from Ridglan Farm, Boone has not had a life full of family, love, and socialization. He will need patience and understanding to make up for lost time.

Health Notes:
Boone is neutered and is fully up to date on his vetting. He i has a grade 3 heart murmur, but it does not bother him in the least, other than the occasional cough. He is currently eating a raw diet, and it is recommended that an adopter continue with this to ensure that his tummy remains stable. Many of the beagles that came out of RF had significant digestive issues for a while, and the raw diet seems to have stabilized that. The Ridglan beagles have been found to be prone to vaccine reactions. He will need to receive Benadryl 24 hours before and 24 hours after vaccines to prevent this going forward.

Personality:
Boone is a brave boy. He has overcome a lot of trauma in his five weeks of freedom. He is working hard to learn to walk on a leash, and enjoys outdoor time with his doggy friends. He is remarkably adaptable, and would thrive in a home where he is included in daily life, He is getting better at accepting human companionship and wanting to snuggle in with people for movies and cuddles.

He is shy, but will warm up to adults and respectful, older children. Fast movements still startle him, so his new family will need to be cognizant of that. He gets along well with other friendly dogs, and loves to play with them. He was introduced to a kitty and did fine, but he has never lived with one.

Outdoors, he is still jumpy with loud noises, but otherwise does wonderfully. He greets people with a slow approach and a shyly wagging tail.

Family Matters:
Boone would love a confident dog sibling. His foster sister Poppy is his companion in patrolling the fenced yard. He enjoys companionship and play, and forms strong bonds. He will let the small dogs take his food and his bed, so you will need to guard those things for him.

Boone is a sweet, shy, calm boy who just wants a family to love him and give him his forever.

Things Boone Loves

Snacks (he loves, cheese, venison, and eggs are faves)
Slowly offered affection
Sniffy yard patrols
Meeting kind, gentle people who respect his space
Spring weather
Life outside a cage

Signature Move:
Patrolling the yard with his sister Poppy, making sure no chipmunks or squirrels invade the perimeter

Bucket List:
Learning how to be a pet
His own fluffy bed
A dish that will always have enough healthy food to fill his belly
Lots of walks
Space to sniff with that beagle nose
A patient, loving family with soft hands and lots of love to offer

A Few House Rules:
Because these dogs have been through so much, it is our job as those entrusted with their care to be very thoughtful in their placement. Here are our requirements.

Fenced yard required
No apartments
Another confident dog in the home required
No small children in the household
Strong veterinary history with current pets up to date on vaccines, heartworm testing/prevention, and current pets spayed/neutered
Preference given to adopters with beagle or hound experience
Minimal hours home alone preferred
Live within 5 hours of our headquarters in Whitewater, WI

Neutered
Microchipped
Housebreaking is a work in progress, though he is improving! He poops outside without issue, but uses a belly band as he gets used to peeing outside.
Working on leash walking, does well with it inside the house, but is startled by loud noises outdoors.
PLEASE do not crate, does spectacularly free roaming the house
UTD on vaccinations
UTD on preventatives

Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs.

Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog.
