Bones's Story

BACKGROUND: Poor Bones was chained up to a tree in a front yard just blocks away from a local animal shelter. Each day, shelter volunteers watched as Bones grew thinner and thinner, left to starve in the freezing cold. The animal control officers claimed they could do nothing. One day, a shelter volunteer noticed Bones had pulled loose from his chain, so she jumped out of her car and grabbed him. Bones was emaciated, had been beaten up pretty badly (he was a sitting duck on a short chain) and had an eye injury. She brought him to the shelter, and after holding him there, he was released to rescue. I had to throw a jacket over Bones as we drove past the people who had neglected him for so long. I took Bones directly to the vet, where he received urgent medical attention. Once he was on the road to recovery, Bones was treated for heartworms. He barely made it through. I used to take Bones to work, where he would lie in the sunshine on one of the reception area chairs. Sometimes he would lie on the back dash of my car, and on those cold, winter days I would let him sleep in the sunshine. UPDATE: Bones found his forever home with John and Samantha in Houston, where he was renamed Cooper.
