Bologna's Story

If there were such a thing as the Beagle Olympics, Bologna would definitely be a gold medalist! Two of his favorite activities are swimming and running, and we’re pretty sure that if he could ride a bike, he’d be the ultimate triathlete!

With his activity level and intelligence, Bologna’s foster mom thinks he would excel at agility, fly ball, or field work. Bologna would also do well with formal obedience training that uses positive reinforcement techniques. At 1 year old, he has a lot of puppy energy, so his new family will need to be sure to provide him with enough exercise and mental stimulation on a daily basis to keep him happy and on his best behavior.

Bologna lives with three other dogs and gets along quite well with all of them. He takes his cues from them and has adapted to his new environment fairly easily. His canine siblings have taught him that car rides aren’t that bad and that strangers can eventually become his friends. He also really enjoys running and playing with them in the fenced-in yard – it’s a great way for him to have fun and burn off some energy. For these reasons, he’ll need a home with a fenced-in yard and another playful dog who will show him the ropes. Bologna can be apprehensive around men; his foster family is helping him overcome this, and his new family will need to continue working with him as well.

Bologna is crate-trained and is crated when his foster family goes out. He is housebroken as well, having learned the routine from his canine siblings. During the day, when he’s not spending time out in the yard, he enjoys playing with his squeaky toys, snuggling with the other dogs and getting attention from his foster family. When it’s bedtime, he’ll sleep in his crate but would prefer to sleep in bed with the humans!

He hasn’t been around cats, so we’re not sure how he would react to them. And while he doesn’t live with young children, he did spend the day with several young children and was very gentle and sweet with them.

If you’re looking for a fun, active, energetic companion to accompany you on your outdoor adventures, look no further than Bologna!

NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
