Bolo's Story

Meet Bolo “Bo” Bolo, affectionately known as Bo, is a 55-pound mixed-breed boy who is about 3 years old—and he has one incredible story of survival.

Bo spent multiple weeks in a local high-kill shelter, where he continued to lose weight and grow weaker. By the time he left the shelter with a foster, he was in such poor body condition and was so lethargic that he was taken straight to the veterinarian. He was critically anemic and needed an immediate blood transfusion. The transfusion gave him a temporary boost, but sadly, Bo began declining again. Even when he was so weak that he could barely lift his head, he still found the strength to wag his tail whenever someone came near him. That little tail wag said everything about Bo—he wanted to live!

He ultimately needed a second blood transfusion and spent months fighting his way back to health. Bo's immune system had been severely compromised after a long battle with Babesia. Thankfully, he has now tested negative, his bloodwork has returned to normal, and his body is getting stronger and stronger. He had been taking prednisone to help support his immune system and is now successfully being weaned off because he has been doing so well. If he experiences another condition that affects his immune system in the future, he may need another round of prednisone, but he has been stable for months with no issues.

And now Bo is ready for the life he fought so hard to have.

Bo is absolutely thrilled to be feeling good and discovering what it means to simply be a dog. He loves having adventures, being included in everyday life, and—perhaps most importantly—knowing that there will always be someone there to care for him.

He is completely housebroken and crate trained. After spending so much of his life fending for himself, Bo still gets incredibly excited when food is served. He LOVES food and treats and is always happy to supervise anything happening in the kitchen!

Bo is dog-friendly and cat-friendly. He mostly lives in his own happy little world, content to explore, relax, and stay close to his people. He peacefully coexists with the other animals in the home and generally doesn't pay much attention to them. Every once in a while, though, he gets a burst of playful energy and will happily roughhouse with his furry friends for a few minutes.

He also does well in the car. In true Bo fashion, he likes to get in, hop into the driver's seat for a quick little toot of the horn, and then make his way to his spot where he settles down for the ride.

Bo has spent far too much of his life simply trying to survive. Now, he wants what every dog deserves: a home, a family, a soft place to sleep, someone to love, and a place where he finally belongs.

He has fought incredibly hard to get here. Now it's time for Bo to enjoy the life he fought so hard to have.

If you're looking for a sweet companion who is ready to appreciate every single day with his people, Bo may be your boy.

bcaaofnj.org
