BOGI's Story
Please contact my foster at: shedds.sheps@gmail.com Meet Bogi, a super playful, loving, and intelligent German Shepherd! Quick Facts About Bogi: Housetrained—Yes Non-destructive when left home alone Reaction to new people—Friendly Energy level—Moderate Good with children—Yes (older, dog-savvy kids recommended) Other animals—Bogi needs to be the only pet in the home Bogi is 90 pounds of fur and love! He’s an incredibly sweet, playful, and intelligent dog who just wants to be with his person. He is a moderate-energy level dog who loves to go on long walks and play fetch, then lounge on the couch to relax. Bogi is a mature pup, but he still has lots of life left to live! He is obsessed with squeaky balls and recently started playing tug-of-war with his foster mom. He’s very strong and always wins, but is still pretty gentle while playing! He also does really well in the car and loves to go for rides. Bogi loves food, but he is not food-obsessed, which provides a perfect balance for a dog who can be trained with food without getting crazy for treats. He also can be trusted to roam while home alone. Additionally, Bogi is a moderately vocal boy—in the best way possible. He grumbles, whines, and even gives baby barks when he wants to communicate his needs or express happiness. He has not howled at all though. He can be a little sassy sometimes, which his foster mom finds very amusing. You never have to wonder what he’s thinking! Bogi is your typical German Shepherd, so prior breed experience is highly recommended. GSD behaviors can be off-putting if you are unfamiliar with them. He is leash and barrier reactive, so he is not a good fit for a first-time pet owner. Bogi also needs to be the only pet in the home. Bogi has come a long way in his leash-walking skills and does very well for his foster mom when exploring the neighborhood with her. She has also been working with him on his reactivity and has already seen improvements when redirecting his attention from other animals. This is a very intelligent dog who would benefit from working with a trainer or experienced pet parent. Bogi would do well in a multi-person home, family environment (older children only), or with someone who is single and has plenty of time to devote to him. He’d thrive in a home where at least one person stays home during the day—like a work-from-home employee or someone who is retired. He’d also love to have a fenced-in backyard, so he can get in some extra sunning time throughout the day and have plenty of room to run around. He likely would do fine in a home without a fenced-in yard, but his owners would need to solidify his recall before ever trusting him off leash. He needs to work on his impulse control and will chase squirrels and other small creatures, so that is important to keep in mind as well. For full details about Bogi, please reach out to his foster mom, Haleigh. She’ll be happy to answer any questions or set up a meet & greet.
