Blue's Story

Hello,
My name is Blue. I am a very spirited 5-year-old, 99lb., blue Weimaraner. My foster parents say that I am a bit mischievous but also a very sweet and loving boy. I love to cuddle and just be close to people. I have a goofy, sweet personality, and I am very affectionate.
I am a bit nervous around new people and will bark to get attention, but as soon as someone gives me a treat or shows me some affection, I immediately melt and become their best friend. I would like some training on getting past this barking thing and being more confident around new people.
I am good around other dogs, even though I've been an only dog for my whole life until I arrived at my foster home. When my foster siblings are getting attention, I sometimes bark at them to get them to back off and then I try to get into the spotlight myself. They mostly ignore me, but I like to act like the big dog I am, but I'm not a fighter, I'm a lover and just want love and pets. When I play with people, I get very excited and I tend to do some mouthing as this has always gotten me pets and attention. My foster parents have been working with me to stop doing this. I'm trying to break this old habit, but I can be persistent when I get excited.
Did I tell you I'm the "Big Dog", literally. I'm very food motivated to keep me going! Like many of my breed, I have mastered counter surfing and taking food if you have it within my reach. I could use some learning of manners, although am I a good boy by nature!
You may be wondering how I am with human littles; I've wondered that myself. I haven't been around little kids! My foster parents don't think I would ever intentionally hurt a little one, but I am excitable, energetic, and love the same foods as them. I am big so I may accidentally knock them over. I think it would be best for me to hang in my crate during meals and snack time; these are the times I may get too pushy. I don't mind the crate, I stayed in the crate while my previous dad was at work. I really like it at meal time because my fosters give my my food there! I have missed my original dad ever since he had to start traveling for his job. That was back in the days when I could hang outside on the farm. I remember playing with the neighbor dogs when they would visit. There were never any cats around though, so I am not sure how that would go..?
My foster parents say that I can be a handful for sure, but when it's time to relax and cuddle it makes it all worth it. I love being close to people and I am the best cuddle buddy you could ever have.
I am up to date on vaccines, neutered, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. I am housebroken too! I don't have to be crated at my foster home, but as I mentioned before, I kinda got used to it in my old home and I like being fed there. I am being fostered in the Florence, KY area. I look forward to finding my forever family soon!
If this big cuddle-bug sounds like a welcome addition to your family, please apply at louisvilleweimrescue.com.
