Blue's Story

Introducing Blue, a newbie husky x lab boy who is a hoot to watch figure out this big new world in his foster home. Some of his new habits include watching TV (ears twitching, tail wagging), taking pens off the side table to lord over his playmates, and balls & toys, oh boy oh boy! There is something so satisfying about watching Blue find a whole different side of his personality as he settles.

Blue lived up north with a gentleman elder who took him to his camp often so Blue is used to being offleash and will walk right beside you. When you stop, he stops. For some reason, when he's on a leash he can pull initially (and for squirrels) but he snaps out of it if you remind him and walks nicely by your side again. Blue's love of balls and his chocolate brown coat are reminiscent of his lab heritage but more than a husky cross, he often looks more like a Wylie Coyote cross the way he cocks his head and moves with his jaunty man-dog trot.

Dogs who are new to foster are like onions - every day another layer peels away to reveal more of who they will become. Since arriving Blue has learned what it is like to live inside a house, start crate training, receive food every day/twice a day (soooo satisfying!), and what seems to be the biggest deal for him is being patted. It must be like how we feel getting the BEST head massage because he wiggles and twists with absolute ecstasy. When your hand gets towards his tail, he can't stand it anymore and he will lick, lick, lick your hand. In fact, licking his foster's hand, arm or ankles is his way of showing his appreciation and overflowing affection.

Blue is good with other dogs and can be both bossy and playful as needed. He adores kids and there is nothing more heavenly than jumping in a vehicle with them and licking them as they giggle which just eggs him on. Blue is great in the car and would like nothing more than to be someone's copilot, going new and neat places together.

All and all this fellow is the perfect medium size, the perfect mature age, and the perfect kind and joyful personality. Grateful, respectful, fun and blossoming - all he needs now is his very own family.

Blue is up to date on core vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and dewormed. His adoption fee is $850. He is currently fostering in Caledon.

Adoption process includes application, virtual home visit, phone interview, reference check, meet & greet, adoption contract and $850 adoption fee.

Fill out the ADOPTION APPLICATION at:
https://secure.ifaw.org/canada/northern-dogs-adoption-application-form

If you sound like Blue's perfect person, someone will be in touch with you to continue the adoption process.

Northern Dogs Project's Adoption Policy
Northern dogs are not a breed but a lifestyle. Until recently most dogs were free roaming but communities are now making changes to how they want to coexist with dogs and many are now tying. Dogs are all identified by Animal Care and are adopted to families in the south as family members only. Northern dogs are smart, experienced, dog social, have been handled by kids, feel safe with women, and are slightly unsure of men at first. Dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (core vaccines DAPP and rabies), microchipped and dewormed.
