Blitzen's Story

Saved from a horrendous situation where he and his brother (Donner) were abandoned by their owner for a very long time with no food or water. The 3rd sibling did not survive dying of starvation. They were in the shelter from 11/2 - 12/11 while cruelty charges were placed and being investigated. Even after what these dogs went through they are some of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever had in our rescue. Currently with a foster family who says this about this sweet, sweet boy:
Blitzen is a super sweet cuddle bug. He doesn’t know his own size and loves to get right on your lap for some love. He does well in the crate and will go in when you guide him especially if you entice him with a treat. He is highly motivated by food and has learned the sit command. He has shown some food aggression with one of my dogs (understandably) so if you have another dog, it needs to be taken into consideration. He has been using the doggie door to go outside and go potty but he also goes near the back door if he needs to go. He does like to chew on things so I have been giving him chew bones to help. He rides in the car well and loves looking out the window. We have been working on walking on a leash ( he is a puller) but with my time and routine walks I believe he will walk gently on a leash. He plays well with dogs his size and my little ones are comfortable in the house with him around. He is learning boundaries with them and has been taking social cues well. We are working on him jumping up on people. Overall he is a very excited dog and happy to just be around people and pups. He loves to cuddle next to you and get affection. Loves belly rubs and head scratches. He is very affectionate and wants love and to belong. He definitely is learning the ways of the house through the other dogs and will adapt well in other homes with pups. I think he will be a loyal companion to someone. With him being so motivated by food he can be trained to do almost anything.
A slow feeder may be a good investment for his future owner. He loves kong toys and bounces them around the house in his "zoomie" mode.
