Blake's Story

We'd love for you to meet Blake!

Blake is a very smart boy who we can proudly say has graduated from obedience training!

We cannot say thank you enough to Patty L. Pampered Pets for their partnership and the change their classes and guidance have made in Blake's behavior.

He has mastered sit, stay, down, wait, leave it and walk. Blake has learned not to jump on people, how to walk calmly on a leash without pulling and more importantly, he has learned how to LISTEN!

Personality: Fun Loving, adventurous, athletic, and energetic! (He really is a great boy.)

Backstory: Blake came into us as a stray. He knew a few commands (sit and down) so it was clear he had been in a home, but was never claimed.

We would say Blake was our wild child. Walking him to and from his patio to the play runs was always an adventure. He would jump excitedly with the anticipation of running and would bark loudly to make sure you understood just how happy he was for his time spent outside!

Everyone knew to wrap that leash around your wrist, dig your heals into the grass and hold on for dear life to avoid being dragged behind him or losing your balance.

Sometimes he would manage to get away from us and would gleefully (he would grin..seriously..not joking) run back and forth along all of the runs to say "HI FRIENDS!" to all of our other dogs out in other runs.

Thank you to Lyn (one of our wonderful volunteers) who loves his spirit but knew something had to change so he could find his forever home. She took him to obedience classes and with the help of volunteer Cassandra and staff member Dan continued his training on-site. Dan also took Blake home for "overnights" to further his training.

He will need a home with a 6 ft privacy fence.

Blake does like other dogs! As with all of our adoptables, a meet n greet is required with all family members, furry and not so furry to make sure it is a great fit.

Blake is an absolute catch, he will need an experienced dog owner who will commit to continue working with Blake to make sure he maintains everything he has learned. This will give Blake the happy home he deserves.

Blake is on-site at our rescue in DeSoto, Iowa. If you are interested in meeting Blake, please fill out an adoption application on our website.

This is not a binding contract. -If you have a specific animal in mind or would like help identifying a suitable match, the completion of the application starts this conversation. -All applications go through a verification process before moving on to Step 2. -Vet Record Verification: We check to ensure that current pets are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. -Home Ownership/Landlord/HOA Verification: We check to ensure pets are allowed at this home and ask about any breed restrictions from the landlord, HOA or city. -If there are any hiccups during the verification process, a volunteer will email you about the status of your application. -If you haven’t heard from us within 48 hours of submission, please check your spam folder! -Please understand that at times we receive multiple applications for the same dog. Our volunteers work tirelessly to ensure the best fit for each dog. Step 2: Meet and Greet -Once your application is verified, an adoption coordinator will be in touch as quickly as possible to discuss next steps. -The adoption coordinator can answer any questions you have about the dog and our process, and they will connect you with the foster volunteer to set up a meet and greet. -We require a meet and greet with all human and furry residents of the home to ensure we are finding the best fit for everyone. Step 3: Home Visit -A home visit is mandatory prior to any dog adoption. -After a successful meet and greet, a home visit volunteer will schedule a time for a home check. -Home visits are not meant to be intrusive. The goal of a visit is to see where our adoptees will live and give adopters a chance to know us better. -The most important thing for us is to know that our animals are going to safe and caring homes and that all members of the family are prepared for a lifelong commitment to their new companion.
