Bixley's Story

***Bixley***
3.5 year old female black Labrador Retriever

Hi there, I'm Bixley!

I’m a 3 ½ year-old female black Labrador Retriever. My foster mom thinks I’m absolutely beautiful and so sweet.

I came from a puppy mill and have spent the last 2 months at my foster home learning how “to be a dog”. I was so scared of everything and everyone. Being in a home was new for me and I was easily startled by noises, quick movements and unfamiliar things. I often stayed by the back door safely nestled there watching the activities until I slowly felt comfortable enough to get closer.

From Day 1, I have always tried to kiss both people and dogs but just wouldn’t let you touch me. You could tell I really wanted to trust and love but was scared based on my past life. Well now, I not only like to kiss everyone, but my tail is constantly wagging because I’m just so happy and excited all the time. My foster mom was so proud of me last weekend. There were lots of new people at the house and I greeted them all and let them pet my head.

I get along well with other dogs and would like a canine brother or sister to play with. My foster brother Bo is almost 13. Even though I’m very gentle with him and show him how much I love him, he doesn’t want to play. I do my own zoomies around the yard and chase the ball or squirrels.

After playing, I like chilling out with a toy on my dog bed and taking a good snooze. I absolutely LOVE toys!

I am still learning the rules of being in a house and would do well in a forever home that will continue to provide me with structure and routine. I am definitely a pleaser but need help knowing what to do. Having another dog to show me the ropes has been very helpful. I am treat motivated so that is a bonus when training.

I haven’t been around cats or young children yet because I'm still young, I may be too much for little ones and might knock them down. I’m very interested in other creatures – squirrels, birds, bunnies - so I would do best in a home without cats or small animals.

So, if you are interested in meeting a sweet loving companion who is excited to continue gaining confidence and learning all the good this world has to offer, I’d love to be part of your family.

If you are an approved LELRR adopter, refer to the instructions on your approval email.

Otherwise, please fill out an application at:
https://www.lelrr.org/adopt.html

Be prepared to provide proof of up to date vaccinations and year round heartworm preventative for any current or recent pets that you have owned.

Adoption radius 150 driving miles from Medina OHIO
