Meet Birdie - Urgent

Meet Birdie!

Our story with Birdie began when she was scheduled to be euthanized the following day at an overcrowded Memphis shelter, through no fault of her own. Having clearly been a mother before (probably several times in her short life), she was malnourished, hungry, desperate for attention and REST.

Two weeks into her new foster journey, we discovered that, once again, she was pregnant! This poor mama, who is approx 3 yrs old, has probably been pregnant or nursing from the time she was just a pup!!!

Ten days later, she was put through another cycle of delivering and nursing puppies (all beautiful and healthy!). Through this process Birdie’s darling disposition showed once again, as she was the MOST nurturing, protective, and all around perfect mama to her babies.

Now, finally, it’s Mama Birdie’s turn. After spending her short life being overbred and giving herself to her babies, all she wants to do is snuggle up on your couch, and be given treats (baby carrots are her absolute favorite).

Wherever you are, Birdie is not far behind. This calm and dainty lady is ready for an easy life of naps, cuddles, and love. She loves to take walks alongside her person, sunbathe, and roll in the grass. Ultimately, though, her end goal is snuggling up next to you on the couch or bed!

As Birdie has spent her life in 'protection' mode for herself and her past babies, it is best if she starts off as an only dog, so she can be the center of someone's world.
Or with someone who is willing to put the time and effort in to really train and integrate her.

This girl doesn’t even realize that she is finally on a different path, that her body will never have to endure another pregnancy, and .....
somewhere out there, she is going to meet her forever person that will give her the life and love she so desperately deserves.

Birdie is HW positive and getting ready to do the full HW treatment. However, she is on a short regimen of steroids to reduce inflammation so she can begin the HW treatment.
No one likes being on steroids and dogs are no different! So Birdie will need a quiet, calm home with minimal strangers coming in and out.

Hopefully in a home where someone is home alot and can keep Birdie company during this period of treatment. She should not be going into any public places or even going for walks, she needs quiet, calm, no exercise and strict crate rest during her treatment.

If you can open your heart, home and world to Birdie, please contact Julie in 919 624 0059 ASAP.

Note: Birdie will be spayed after HW treatment finishes and she has completely healed.
