Birdie's Story

Birdie has overcome so much in her short life. An It's a Pittie volunteer saw a picture of her in an overcrowded city shelter in critical condition and offered to foster her.

Birdie was pulled into IPR and subsequently seen at several emergency vets, but no one could figure out what was wrong with her. Finally she was taken to University of Illinois where it was determined that she had a tear in her trachea. They were able to surgically repair it to save her life and now Birdie is loving life!

She loves people, however kids 14+ are best as she can knock over younger ones, can get a bit mouthy when playing, and is very protective of her rear end (possibly due to abuse in her previous life). Birdie needs to have a dog friend in her forever home, however she is very selective about who she will be friends with. Generally she likes males more than females, but she does currently live with foster fur brothers and fur sisters. Once she has trust in a dog friend, she turns into a play monster! She loves to wrestle and is extremely vocal when playing, so a dog who can handle her rowdy and loud play style is a must. While Birdie has a high prey drive when out on walks when she sees rabbits, squirrels, etc., she does live with cats and completely ignores them.

Some requirements for her forever home include:

· A fenced in yard with a 6’ fence, preferably not chain link – She can jump HIGH!

· Someone willing to continue to work with and carefully monitor her resource guarding

· A dog friend she can play with. This is the best outlet for her sometimes seemingly endless energy

Birdie is a special girl with special requirements, but once she finds the perfect home she’ll reward her new family with silly antics and tons of love. Plus she’s just adorable!!!

Birdie is potty trained, crate trained, and ready to find her forever loving him! Birdie would do great in a home with kids 14+, dog savvy cat friends, and dog friends tolerant of her excited play style.

Want to make Birdie yours forever?
