Birdie's Story

She loves everybody she meets at the shelter. She may be shy for a millisecond upon meeting new people, but then is quick to trust and wants to give lots of hugs and kisses. With her loving heart, and willingness for deep eye-gazing with her soft brown peepers, she could be a good candidate for an emotional support dog.

Around other dogs, she is interested and friendly, often going in for smoochies, though she is occasionally nervous at first around other big dogs. However, when gently introduced face-to-face by a trusted friend and allow

We've noticed that Birdie may have some barrier-induced fear, or perhaps an instinct to guard when other dogs are walking past the play area and she's inside the fence. We're working to let her know she's safe on the shelter grounds and needn't be afraid or on guard duty.

Billie is learning the leash quickly. She gets exuberant at times but listens to her handler very well. She loves treats and is happy to sit prettily for them.

Birdie has wonderful potential as a companion or beloved family dog.

Birdie will need to be spayed before going home with you.

She does keep her inner kennel tidy, using her outside kennel for potty time. Though we can't make guarantees, that's a good sign.

We do not have info on her attitude toward cats at this time.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
