Birdie's Story
Birdie was pulled from an overcrowded shelter in Oklahoma. At about one year old, she was on the list to be euthanized for space. Since she had a litter of 7 puppies who all got rescued, this was especially unfair.
Birdie is sweet and affectionate. She loves her people, and she loves other dogs. Birdie would do best with people willing to continue basic puppy training, and willing to set up play dates with other dogs. Birdie would do well in daycare or in a family with other dogs.

2/9/26 Update: Birdie tested positive for heartworm disease. This is due to being bitten by an infected mosquito. Heartworm Disease is not directly contagious to other dogs (but all dogs should be on heartworm prevention monthly, year-round to prevent infection/reinfection). Underdog has started our American Heartworm Society approved treatment protocol for heartworm, and with proper after-care, we should see a full recovery. While we allow dogs to go home prior to treatment being completed, an adopter will simply need to commit to bringing this dog to the scheduled treatment appointments and keep them CALM (with strict crate rest or supervised relaxation) during and after treatment injections (for 4 months total). We provide adopters with instructions and will cover needed medication. We are seeking applicants who live in the greater Madison area, since crucial treatment and care (multiple visits over 2 months) are completed at our vet clinic, located in Madison. Dogs who are treated for heartworm have a good likelihood of recovery when post-treatment instructions and rest are followed.

Interested in this sweet dog? Our puppy (under 5 mo) is $450. Our senior dog (over 8 yrs) is $275. Our adoption fee for bonded adult dogs is $550.

*Please note that all breeds noted are estimates or best guesses. We very rarely have information on our animals' actual breeds since they often come to the shelters we work with as strays*

WI DATCP Licensed Rescue #281765
