Bijou's Story

Meet Bijou!

Her name is French for jewel and we can't think of a more fitting name for this tiny treasure.

Bijou is an approximately 4.5-year-old Chihuahua mix with a heart of gold and a story that will tug at your heartstrings.

Until recently, Bijou's world was heartbreakingly small. She was rescued from a hoarding situation where she lived in a dirt pen alongside 60 other dogs. Exposed to the elements around the clock, covered in fleas, and battling intestinal parasites, Bijou had never experienced many of the simple comforts that every dog deserves.

Despite everything she's been through, Bijou has nothing but love to give

This tiny sweetheart absolutely adores people. She's playful, affectionate, and firmly believes that cuddles and kisses should be distributed generously and often. After spending so much of her life without the love and attention she deserved, Bijou is making up for lost time, one snuggle at a time

Of course, learning how to be a pampered little princess comes with a bit of a learning curve!

Bijou is crate trained but not housebroken just yet. After all, when you've spent your life living outdoors, nobody exactly hands you a copy of "house dog etiquette for beginners" With patience, consistency, and lots of positive reinforcement, we're confident this clever little lady can learn the ropes.

And what about furry friends? Bijou has shown quite a bit of interest in the bigger dogs in her foster home! She's still a little intimidated by their size, but she seems genuinely eager to make friends.

We aren't sure how she feels about cats, as her foster home doesn't have any. And because of her background and need for a patient, gentle environment, we're recommending a home with children ages 10 and over.

Spayed
Vaccinated
Microchipped
HW negative
Flea & parasite free
On monthly prevention

Our little jewel may have come from humble beginnings, but she's ready for a life filled with love, laughter, cozy blankets, and all the kisses her tiny heart can handle.

NOTE: We do NOT respond to PetFinder inquiries. Two Black Dogs Foundation's Adoption Policy
All adopters MUST fill out an application. We do not respond to inquiries submitted through PetFinder. If you have questions about a specific animal feel free to email us, or send us a message on Facebook. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received. If you are approved to adopt a member of our team will contact you. Meet and greets are set up by appointment only after you’ve been approved. In most cases you are allowed to take your new pet home after your meet and greet, unless the animal is too young to be spayed/neutered, in which case you will sign up to foster-to-adopt. We do not hold animals so please do not apply or set up a meet and greet unless you are ready to leave with your new pet. Any vetting done at your own vet clinic will be at your own expense. Spay/neuter included in adoption fee must be done by one of our local partner vet clinics, and adopter is responsible for arranging transportation. All animals adopted through TBDF are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and parasite free and up to date on their preventions. All cats and kittens are FiV/FeLV tested, all dogs over 6 months of age are heartworm tested and treated if positive.
