Big Ben's Story

Meet the gentle giant that had it harder than most. Big Ben was pulled from a canal where he was drowning and fighting for his life. He suffered injuries where he scratched off his toe nails and sustained damage to his paws. Finally brought to safety, he was exhausted and slept for 2 full days. No dog, especially a senior, deserved that.

He's been doing well since he arrived! He's been to the vet where he was tested to make sure he's healthy. He is!

Ben has been enjoying his foster home but is looking for his forever home! Here are some notes from his foster mom: Ben is a very easy dog and most of the time I forget he is here! I work at home and he sleeps on a bed next to my desk. I am on zoom calls all day and he never makes a noise! We have low windows to the street and he never barks at passersby. He seems to be losing his hearing and I can get up and move around without disturbing him. He has had an accident in the house twice but I think he was just new - he has a bladder of steel and goes all night - sometimes 12 hours - without needing to potty. I just walk him to the backyard a few times a day and he does his business. We have dog beds all over the house but he loves sleeping on the floor on a blanket in my teenage son's room (see picture!): my son says he is extremely easy to sleep with, doesn't make much noise, but will occasionally "run" in his dreams! He is fine with our other two dogs but doesn't want to engage with them. He would be perfectly happy alone. It seems like in his younger years he was the boss! He does get a little protective of his food and toys with the other dogs - grumpy old man! Due to his size, they all just back away! He likes walks but can't last too long. He seems to be thrilled with just 1-2 10-15 minute walks a day where he can sniff and remember what like was like when he could move quicker! He still has good life in him - loves being brushed, likes head and shoulder scratches, and still has lots of tail wags for his family!
