Bert (Neutered)'s Story

Bert is a cute one-year old male Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix who was brought to HSOV on January 6, 2026 by a Good Samaritan who found him on DAV Road in the Whipple Ohio area. Bert was accompanied by none other than his best friend (Ernie) who may possibly be his brother.

Bert has a white short smooth coat with several large black patches on his sides, a long tail, and an adorable black/white face, dark brown eyes, tan eyebrows, and short floppy ears. Bert has beautiful blue ticking throughout his coat and red ticking on his legs.

These pictures of Bert were taken on the afternoon of January 12, 2026. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver for spending time with Bert and assisting him with his photo session. Bert posed for a few still-life photos but he really wanted to be as close to Emily as possible .. so his best pictures were those when he was standing upright on his hind legs and hugging Emily with his front paws (smile).

Bert doesn't appear to have had any walking-on-a-leash experience, but not to worry .. Much to Bert's delight, Emily picked him up in her arms and carried him back into the shelter like a babe in arms.

In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bert was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for Bert (or Ernie).

Since he was not reclaimed, Bert was neutered on January 19, 2026 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Bert weighs 26 lbs and wouldn’t take up much room in your home, but he would surely fill your heart with love.

Note: Bert's bestie/brother (Ernie) went home with a foster family on January 24th who plans to adopt him if all goes well.)

Bert is currently in a large floor crate in our main kennel, and Bert is dreaming of being adopted or fostered-to-adopt so that he can also enjoy a loving home.

Update: Bert's dream of being adopted was fulfilled when he was adopted at closing time on February 11, 2026.
