Bernie (Calhoun Babies)'s Story

Meet Bernie

Bernie is a 5 month old terrier mix who will stay small, likely under 25 pounds full grown. His past left him unsure of people, so he is shy and cautious. He is not feral. He wants connection, but trust takes time. After a month in foster, he still startles with touch, but he chooses to cuddle once he feels safe.

Bernie is wee wee pad trained. He stays loose in the home when his foster leaves and does well. He watches and learns from other dogs, which is why he must live with another confident, friendly dog. Having a dog buddy helps him feel safe and learn how to be a dog.

Bernie needs a calm, slower paced home. Older kids only, age 12 and up, who respect space and patience. This is not a dog you will hug and snuggle right away. With time, routine, and consistency, Bernie opens up and shows his sweet, quiet personality.

A fenced yard is preferred. A non fenced home will be considered if Bernie wears a FI GPS collar any time he is outside.

Bernie is looking for a patient family who sees the value in helping a shy dog learn the world is safe.

Adoption Fee: $550

MORE INFO: Every dog with Wilder Souls Rescue receives thorough veterinary care before adoption. Each pup is examined by our vet and treated for age-appropriate needs. This typically includes:
* Full health exam
* Deworming
* Core vaccines (Bordetella, DHPP series, Rabies)
* Microchipping
* Monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention

IMPORTANT: This dog has not yet been altered. Wilder Souls Rescue requires a $100 deposit in addition to the adoption fee, along with a strictly enforced Spay/Neuter Contract that states you must have this dog altered within 6 months of adoption. The $100 deposit will be returned once the contract has been fulfilled.

All of our dogs live in loving foster homes, where they can decompress, learn routines, and prepare for a smooth transition into their forever families.

If you’d like to meet this pup or learn more, please complete our adoption application here:

https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/NYWS/Dog
