Meet Bernie
Meet Bernie!! One of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet!!! Bernie is a 1 year old, 41 pound Beagle mix who was rescued from a high intake shelter in West Virginia. This guy just wants to be around you and get some love. He is super chill, good with other dogs and kids, and is shy but warms up pretty quickly. Bernie will make a great family member addition to a family that will love him ??!!!
Bernie also tested positive for Lyme, which is a non-contagious tick borne disease. Unfortunately, this disease can't be completely cured and will remain with Bernie for the remainder of his life.
While Lyme can't be cured, there are things that can be done to reduce flare ups, including a yearly Lyme vaccine. If a flare up should occur, it will likely present with joint pain/inflammation, lethargy, and lack of appetite. Typically, a dose of antibiotics is enough to cause Lyme to go dormant again. Should several flare ups occur, in a short amount of time, it could potentially affect his kidneys.
Lyme has become more prevalent in Kentucky and West Virginia, and HART has adopted many dogs with this disease. Thus far, it has not affected any of them from living life to their fullest!
If you would like to meet Bernie, please go to our website at www.rescueahart.org and fill out an online adoption application.
All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks! www.rescueAhart.org
