Bentley 0125's Story

Meet Bentley - Your Future House Hippo with a Brain to Match Bentley is officially ready to start looking for his forever home--and he's looking for the right one. This boy has put in the work, and now he needs a human who understands exactly what makes him thrive. After spending time in structured training, Bentley is now off-leash trained, e-collar trained, and fluent in commands like "leave it," "wait," "with," "here," and his personal favorite, "go sniff." He has been logging miles on the farm, learning how to focus, regulate himself, and exist calmly in a structured environment. Bentley thrives on clear expectations, consistency, and leadership. Give him that, and he is an absolute dream. Give him an inch... and he will take 30 miles. Bentley's Ideal Home: - Someone home more often than not - A clean, dog-proofed home (he can and will open doors, cabinets, and access anything within reach) - A home willing to use structure and commands daily - An adopter willing to continue e-collar training OR someone who understands he will need a very structured, home-based lifestyle - Someone who understands that walks are focused training time, not distractions No cats or small animals Other Dogs: Bentley does best with calm, low-energy dogs that don't engage in constant play. No high-energy dogs (labs, etc.). He prefers a peaceful environment. Behavior Notes: -Bentley can become leash reactive if allowed to--this is why structure and handler awareness are so important - He thrives when given direction and stays focused when engaged with his handler - He does very well when left out as long as he does not have access to the kitchen Home Setup: Bentley's foster safely manages him using a 6ft baby gate to keep him in the living room, where he settles beautifully. Without boundaries, his curiosity will get the best of him. Crate/Kennel: Bentley has kennel anxiety for about 30 minutes and will break out of a standard wire crate. If crating is necessary, he will require a high-anxiety, escape-proof kennel. The Reality of Bentley: Bentley is not a difficult dog--he is a smart, driven dog who requires structure. He enjoys his naps, his people, and being your classic "house hippo," but he also needs someone who will continue the rules and training that set him up for success. In the right home, Bentley is calm, affectionate, and incredibly rewarding. In the wrong home--where structure disappears--so will his good habits. The Bottom Line: Bentley needs a confident, consistent handler who will give him the leadership he thrives on. If you can provide that, you will get one of the most loyal, entertaining, and loving companions out there. If you're ready for a dog that will keep you accountable (and make you laugh daily), Bentley is ready for you.
