Benny is in Maine (fka Beignet)'s Story
Benny is a two year old "some sort of pit bull type" mix who weighs around 75lbs. Poor Benny has been with us since September of 2024. He is a happy, healthy boy who loves to romp and play and follow up with a good snuggle. If you love a dog who is "some sort of pit bull type" mix, you will swoon over Benny! He's the epitome of the class clown with an often misinterpreted deep bark and a goofy grin when he is happy. And of course he's a freight train of full body wiggles, the great news is that he has learned to apply the breaks and stop short of becoming a plow.

Benny loves people and will bond quickly. He is sensitive and in tune to the world around him and is always taking in new information. New sights and sounds are suspicious to him him initially, but in time he has learned that the FedEx guy brings snacks, and the TV isn't real life. He has also learned that new people equal more bum scratches.

He was previously downright awful on leash and walks with a lot of stimuli terrified him. He's gotten MUCH better with this but he would prefer walking on trails and quiet roads. He's a country bumpkin at heart who romps around and entertains himself in a fenced yard. Benny is house and crate trained, and knows all his basic house manners (though he does like to "suckle" his blankets and sometimes he thinks a throw rug is one of his blankets). He enjoys learning with consistency and rewards, he's a sponge. He likes other dogs, it's just a matter of if other dogs like him so this will be determined by a meeting. Cats aren't a dealbreaker, if they are dog savvy. He likes a routine, so an adult home in a quiet area will be the bees knees for Benny.

Benny's backstory: Estimated dob 4/2024. Benny was found in an abandoned park when he was 3 months old. He had such a severe case of demodex that the only fur visible was a dusting of white on his head. Our Louisiana rescue partner thought it looked like the powdered sugar of their beloved Louisiana beignets, and the name stuck. He does still have some scarring localized to his face from this previous condition but it's just cosmetic. He is prone to environmental itchies from dust, pollen and the like so he eats a limited ingredient diet, takes lots of omegas and an allergy pill. He uses a sunscreen while outdoors since he is prone to getting pink.

PLEASE NOTE - We will check your veterinary reference, to ensure that current and prior dogs have a history of being kept up to date on rabies and distemper,
Current pets must by spayed/neutered.

Adoption fees cover age specific vaccinations, martingale collar, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm/lyme/ehrlichia test, worming and transport fees.

Adoption fees:
Through 6 months of age $450;
7 months to through 5 years $400;
6 years and under 9 years $325: bonded pairs are $500;
9 years and older $250: bonded pairs are $300

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning Pending Adoption. This dog is in foster care locally, ONLY if Maine or New Hampshire is listed next to the dogs name; otherwise, the dog is still waiting with our partner rescue for an adoption or foster home in New England.

Imported dogs are transported on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All imported dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to getting on transport.ve had annual heartworm tests and are on heartworm preventative.

FOR PUPPIES: PLEASE READ!!
Homes considering Puppies must be prepared for:
Flexible Schedules for Potty Training. Puppies can only hold urine for one hour per month of age. Crate Training for the next 10 months to keep them safe from chewing on everything in your home. Supervision with Children and Obedience training.
Socialization; both with new people, children and other dogs outside of the home.
Homes that want a well behaved dog, must be prepared to put the time, effort and costs associated to train a puppy. Well behaved dogs are not born, they are trained! Please do not apply for a puppy if you cannot or do not have the time for a puppy.
