Benny 's Story

We are pleased to introduce you to Benny aka Benjamin aka Ben aka Ben Ben aka Benji!!

Benny’s story is one of profound sadness and triumph. Benny joined our rescue organization back in April, he was an urgent dog, who had become profoundly sick at the shelter, his medical needs far exceeded what could be offered at the shelter. After leaving the shelter Benny spent 17 days in the hospital recovering from very serious pneumonia. But his sadness and his heartbreak started way before he ended up at the shelter. You see Benny was found in the inner city of Chicago early one morning, on the driveway of a citizen of Chicago, barking and crying, asking for somebody to help his friend. Benny was found with another dog, that dog was in very bad physical shape with multiple wounds, gashes and cuts all over his body. He lay nearly lifeless on the driveway, while Benny stood over him, protecting him and barking loudly for help. Once the animal control officers were able to capture the two dogs, it was determined that Benny’s friends injuries were very serious and he did not make it. Can you imagine how sad Benny was at the shelter without his friend? Not knowing what happened to him? He refused to eat at the shelter and did not find joy in anything that the volunteers tried to do with and for him…..he got sick. That’s where we stepped in.

He recovered nicely from his pneumonia having spent 17 days in the hospital and has now spent six months in the care of a loving foster, who has been working very hard to help him get over what is clearly a profoundly abusive past. Benny adores other dogs. He will need another dog who is confident, caring, loving, and will feel comfortable, guiding him through the next steps of his recovery in his new home. .You see Benny does not connect with humans easily. We suspect every connection that he has had with a human prior to joining our organization likely was one of abuse and neglect. We could go into great detail the types of things in Benny’s world that seem to scare him, but we would prefer to look on the more positive side, Ben is learning how to be a dog. Ben loves to go for walks every day, he loves to chew on his Benabones and his cow hooves . Ben has gained a significant amount of weight, strength and confidence. He is incredibly handsome and has such a desire to live peacefully and lovingly with another dog.

Are you willing to continue helping Ben find joy? Are you ready to feel the joy that will come by helping Ben move to the next level and learn how to live out the rest of his life with love surrounding him? What Benny needs, is a patient family, with a very friendly dog, he likes both males and females and a fenced yard would be amazing!

Take a look at his pictures and video. He is a survivor and is ready to move onto his next steps.
