However, it is very clear that he has been through some trauma in the last few years, which has resulted in resource guarding behavior around food-related items. He also sometimes needs his space and requires that his people pet him only when he asks for attention.<br/><br/>The good news? He shows none of this behavior toward other dogs and his triggers can be managed with some careful set-up of his environment. The better news? Benny has been working on learning new behaviors with the help of a professional trainer. He will continue to need reinforcement of these new behaviors in his new home.<br/><br/>Benny needs to go to a home with adults only. Not because he doesn’t like kids, but because kids have a harder time with following the systems required to keep everyone safe. He would be happy with or without furry siblings and has lived with dogs, a cat, and a rabbit.<br/><br/>Do you have room in your heart and your house for an older gentleman who wants nothing more than a walk, a snack, and a nap? Can you modify the environment so that no food or food-adjacent trash is accessible to a determined beagle nose? Can you resist petting these big old ears unless requested?
