Benny's Story

Hewo der! My name is Benny! I am a male, 48 pound, labrador retriever, about 2 years old. I am neutered and fully vaccinated. I am so lucky to have been rescued by the Cantu Foundation. I was rescued from the ESLR House of Horrors in TJ in 2025 and have been with TCF for about 6 months before finally finding a foster home. Now I am on the hunt for my furever home!

Here's why I am amazing:

Well-Behaved: I am fully potty trained and crate trained. I am also doing very well with leash training.

Sweetheart: I adore meeting new dogs and I am a big, happy sweetheart once I get comfortable with my hoomans. Treats, gentle pets on the head, and walks win me over! Once I like you, I follow you around with the biggest smile and wags. My foster mom describes me as sweet, gentle, and happy!

A little more about me:

My favorite things to do are playing with my foster brother, going for walks, and napping near or following around my foster mom (but soon to be YOU). I love other doggos with the proper introduction. Although, I am not sure how I am with cats and little hoomans. I have mild anxiety and am mildly independent. I am somewhat cuddly and affectionate, and somewhat playful with moderate energy. I sometimes enjoy public outings but do not love car rides (I'm ok on shorter trips).

I want love SO badly but given my traumatic past, I need you to build trust first! I can get nervous and bark, grumble, or run away if someone approaches too quickly. I am very submissive and skittish, so I will need some time to get comfortable on my own terms. If you give me the space to relax, a quiet spot to decompress, and some treats along the way, you will see my true sweet, adorable self. I warm up quicker to women than men.

What's my dream home?

I'd love a yard and a quiet space to curl up. I'd do great with other dogs. I can be good for a family or a single person/couple who work from home. I could also do a smaller home because I usually just want to curl up in a quiet space.

My adoption fee is $400. This fee covers my first year of vaccinations, neuter, and microchip. Think we'd be a perfect pair? Apply to adopt me at www.thecantufoundation.org
