Benny's Story
Benny came from a recent hoarding case in Rhea County. There were over 100 animals in the home, including 71 dogs. Benny is fairly reserved and takes a while to trust but he doesn't mind being picked up and petted on. He was covered in fleas and had extreme hair loss due to a prolonged fleas infestation. Our vets estimate Benny to be around 6-7 years old and he weighs 10 lbs. Benny is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. He is a flight risk so we recommend a fenced in yard and a home with other dogs, which he loves. Benny is getting twice weekly medicated baths and a monthly injection for his skin. His new owner will likely need to continue these until he is fully healed.

From his foster: Benny’s small body is packed with personality. He loves to snuggle under a blanket beside his person, but is also independent enough to explore the house and yard on his own. He’s starting to have bouts of zoomies and playfulness more often and recently discovered the joy of toys! He’s been playful with his friend who was pulled from the same hoarding case, but hasn’t shown interest in playing with the other dogs in his foster home yet.

We’re working on house training, but he will need patience and structure since he didn’t have bathroom boundaries previously. He will use a puppy pad and go outside, but doesn’t do either consistently yet. He also doesn’t know a leash yet, so a fenced yard is probably best initially.

His skin isn’t in the best shape because of the environment he lived in, but it’s already starting to improve with medicated baths, good food, and supplements.

Benny is a little slow to warm to new people, but he’s worth the wait and will make a great sidekick for a lucky person!
