Benji (S25-46)'s Story

Meet Benji - our gentle, soulful shepherd.

- I am hospice and will need special care. I need ongoing physical therapy and a home without stairs or slippery surfaces, as he is slowly losing the use of his back legs-

Benji is a 9-year-old, 72-pound German Shepherd with a gaze that speaks of all he's been through-and a quiet hope for what lies ahead. After spending too long without a home to call his own, Benji is ready to settle into the comfort of a peaceful life surrounded by love.

He's incredibly smart and very treat-motivated (emphasis on very), making him a quick learner and eager companion. While his days of high-speed adventures may be behind him, Benji still has so much life and loyalty to give. He's currently working on building strength in his back legs, so short walks, slow mornings, and lots of encouragement are just what he needs.

Benji gets along well with people and can form deep, lasting bonds once he trusts you. He can be selective with other dogs, so we do require a meet-and-greet to ensure he'll be comfortable with any canine companions.

What Benji wants most is simple: a quiet home, a soft spot to rest, and someone to believe in him. For the person who opens their heart to this sweet old soul, a truly loyal friend is waiting.

----
Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!
