Benji's Story

UPDATED 10/13/2025 Hi! My name is Benji! I'm a super friendly 8-year old male beagle. I'm a very loving guy! I love to hang out on the sofa with my people! I also love to go for long walks! I was crated a lot in my former home, & so I don't like the crate now. If I have to be confined, then it's better to baby gate me in the kitchen. I've lived with young children & I love to play with them! When I came into Nittany Beagle Rescue, I drank excessively. But Nittany Beagle Rescue took me to the vet, & it looks like I might have diabetes insipidus - that's the one where I'm thirsty all the time & I drink lots of water; it's probably hormonal. It's treated by taking a pill (or eye drops) called desmopressin. If you use Good Rx or go to a pharmacy with a good discount program, the cost is very reasonable. (Nittany Beagle Rescue filled my prescription at the Weis Pharmacy & it is about $50 a month.) I'm housetrained. I usually go outside several times a day. I can hold it through the night! We just found out that I have Cushings Disease, & I just started meds for that. They really seem to be helping! I'm already neutered & up-to-date on vaccines. I'm on the chubby side & am on a diet. Nittany Beagle Rescue's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue dog & Nittany Beagle Rescue! We are a foster-home based rescue. We hold showings on the 1st & 3rd Saturday of the month at Lyons Kennels in Bellefonte, PA from 11am - 1pm. You can meet some of our dogs then! Please email or send a PM on our FB page if you want to know if a particular dog will be at the showing. If you are interested in a particular dog, or a type of dog, please submit an application to foster or adopt (it's the same application form). Once you have an approved application for a dog, we will connect you with the dog's foster parent. Typically the potential adopter & foster talk on the telephone first. Then if the dog seems like a good fit, we arrange a personal meet & greet.
