Ben's Story

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Ben is a sweet senior Shorthair who would do well in a fenced yard where he can wander due to poor sight. His hearing and smell are working fine so he shows interest in exploring. Also, older children would be fine.

BEN’S STORY:

Ben is a 53lb, 12yr old male whose owner passed away and subsequently he ended up in a shelter. He is living with 3 other dogs (all Shorthairs from 8-14yrs old). Ben gets along with the other dogs and will engage in play sometimes. He enjoys short walks, car rides and cuddling with someone on the couch or bed.

Ben’s personality is that he is spunky and sometimes sassy. However, he does have medical issues that impact how long he can walk and how much he plays.

He is visual and hearing impaired. Ben has medications to regulate his blood pressure. He also takes medications to work to minimize pain and inflammation from severe spine arthritis. He can navigate stairs with care, getting up and down from dog beds, and couches but he does have leg weakness at times where his hind legs buckle sometimes. Going into a sit position and sometimes down position, he can look stiff. He is on medications to work to keep him comfortable and he does have playful spunky moments, however, he is not a dog that will do long walks and adventures even though mentally he sure would love to. While medically, he has things going on, Ben is a true joy, great personality and a professional cuddler. He loves to meet people, go for car adventures, can sniff out any treats and human food, and go for brief walks. Playing games engaging his nose and treats- he loves that and can see him doing it outside on a long lead too. He is not a puller.

If you’re a family who wants to adopt a sweet senior boy, then Ben may be just the match for you!
