Bellamy's Story

Bellamy will find your hand with her nose and push it up onto her head, and if you stop she will come back and do it again.

She is a two year old pit bull, gray brindle, with a white stripe running up the middle of her face, a white chest and four white feet. She came to us as a stray in March in poor condition. She is a different dog now. She is at a healthy weight, she is spayed, and she is up to date on her vaccinations.

What Bellamy wants is people. She leans into the whole length of a good scratch, she melts into a lap she is not really sized for, and being next to her person is her favorite place in the building. She is dog friendly and does well with other dogs, so a home with a resident dog is open to her. She is easy company, she is happy to be included in whatever you are doing, and she does not ask for much beyond that.

A few honest things before you apply. Bellamy does best with someone around a good part of the day, and a house suits her better than an apartment. We are also looking for a home without cats and without young children.

We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
