Bella's Story
Bella came to RAD due to an unfortunate situation. Her loving mom, who had adopted her just over a year ago from another rescue group, had fallen ill and needed to go into a care facility. She could not take Bella with her, and had to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender her. Bella found herself for the second time in 2 years, without a home to call her own.

Bella is a sweet and loving dog. She loves people, all people. She is happy to meet new people anywhere she goes, and always wants to be pet, even by strangers. At 11 years old, she will still jump up to greet you with kisses, even if you’ve just met! She is a homebody at heart - in the morning she will reluctantly go outside with you, but if you don’t wake her up she will keep happily snoozing away until lunch. In the afternoon she wakes up a bit more, and enjoys going for a leisurely walk around the neighbourhood. She is a puller on leash, and depending on the dog she passes she may react by barking and pulling towards them - but sometimes she just ignores them. Bella is very smart, and knows a lot of tricks. She will show them off to you in exchange for attention or treats! She would love to continue learning new things in her future home.

Naturally, with the changes in her life in the past few years, Bella has some anxiety. She does not like to be overstimulated, so walks in calm places are best for her. She does not like to be left alone, and she does not like being in a crate. Her foster has been working patiently with her to help her to feel safer, and she is also taking medication to help ease her anxiety. When you are home with her, she loves to cuddle, ask for belly rubs, and play with her toys, but when you leave she barks and is not at ease. When she’s alone is almost the only time you hear her voice, she is otherwise quite a quiet dog. Her ideal home is one where her family will have someone who’s always home, especially at first, and one who are willing to continue working with her so that she can feel safe at home alone. She would love to have a home with a yard where she can play fetch, she loves that game! While she can live in an apartment or condo, her bark is loud and this could be a problem while she is still learning how to be left alone.

Bella has had dental work and only has a few remaining teeth. She eats her kibble with ease despite this. She has had urinary crystals in the past, but these are very well controlled when she is eating her urinary diet.
