She has been staying with Kasey Herrera (Master Trainer and Behavior Specialist with 2SpeakDog), where her journey began with a gradual, carefully managed diet transition to support her overall health and emotional well-being. By improving her gut microbiome through balanced, fresh nutrition, we focused on supporting full-body wellness and more stable behavior from the inside out. Bella is now fully transitioned to a fresh food diet and is thriving. From there, she was supported through carefully planned, slow, and respectful introductions designed to help her feel safe and confident around other dogs. These gradual, trust building experiences focused on pairing her with calm, emotionally stable dogs who would not react to her insecure communication. Through this thoughtful process, Bella made wonderful progress, and in a beautiful full-circle moment, her very first real dog friend turned out to be a gentle 150-pound boy. Their interactions are closely supervised and limited to short, positive sessions to ensure Bella continues to feel safe, successful, and supported. This careful approach has helped her build confidence while honoring her boundaries. Over the holidays, Bella enjoyed a little vacation at a river house with human friends, where she fit right in, had the best time, and even rocked a cute bathing suit. Bella is incredibly smart and eager to learn. She already knows sit, down, stay, come, spin, touch, focus, and wait. She thrives with mental and physical enrichment and loves having a job to do. She is also a certified blanket thief! If there is a basket of blankets, Bella will happily take them out one by one and wrap herself up in each, creating her own little cozy nest. This energetic girl is full of personality and joy. She’s a little firecracker who loves to run, play, and soak up life with her people. And let’s be honest, it’s hard to beat her on cuteness. Bella came to CARE from a southwestern Virginia shelter. She is 5 years old and fully grown at 25 pounds . Bella’s devotion to her humans is unmatched, and meeting new human friends is always cause for celebration! Expect zoomies and lavish smooches! As for other animals, Bella is tends to be reactive. Our handler feels that Bella may have experienced past trauma, and possibly been attacked by another animal. As a result, Bella has developed a defensive behavior towards other animals. It is important that Bella’s new home provides her with a secured fenced yard to run and play in. She will reward her lucky adopterswith many years of love, devotion, great joy! She is a sweet, friendly, happy girl who simply wants a home and humans of her own. Bella is the ultimate companion with a big heart and amazing spirit. Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Petfinder inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of Bella as well as our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with your family and Bella at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting her and determining that she matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner. Capital Area Rescue Effort's Adoption Policy

CARE Rescue is a private, non-profit, all volunteer organization. We do not have a public facility for you to visit, so the only opportunity to meet our adoptable animals is at an adoption event, held weekly, in the Richmond, VA area (calendar on website at www.carerva.com). We update our Petfinder listing daily, so animals advertised as available are available for adoption! Our adoption process begins at the adoption stand. We do NOT have an online application, but will offer you one after you have met the animal(s) you are interested in adopting and have determined that it is a good fit for your home. We are happy to discuss, at length, available information on our animals at the adoption stand. Because we are a volunteer organization, we cannot always answer and respond to telephone calls and emails. After the adoption stand, our adoption committee meets to determine which applications it has that meet our adoption criteria. Our adoption criteria is thoroughly discussed on Page 1 of the application. We reserve the right to deny an adoption to any one for any reason. Please understand that we know these animals and their needs well and our goal is to place them in the very best situation for each one individually. We do not place our animals in homes with preschool aged children and are careful with size differences in animals. A constructed fenced yard will be required for most adoptions. We will request, and rely heavily upon, a veterinary reference. Your veterinarian can give us the information we need to determine that you are a responsible pet owner. We will check to see if your previous and/or current animals were spayed or neutered, kept up to date with vaccines, kept on monthly PRESCRIBED heart worm medication, and if you gave your animal the care your veterinarian recommended. This is the first step to our process A home visit is required for all adoptions. Generally we require that this visit be done by one of our volunteers, so often it is difficult to place animals more than 100 miles of Richmond in any direction, although sometimes it is possible. The purpose of the home visit is to ensure that the home is safe for the animal being considered for adoption. We prefer to have all family members present for the home visit. Most adoptions take place within 7 days of the adoption stand. We ask that you not seek adoption just before a major life change (job change, wedding, divorce, relocation) or just before a planned vacation. Our goal is that our animals have several weeks to decompress and learn their place in their new families without additional stress.
