She has been staying with Kasey Herrera (Master Trainer and Behavior Specialist with 2SpeakDog), where her journey began with a gradual, carefully managed diet transition to support her overall health and emotional well-being.<br/><br/>By improving her gut microbiome through balanced, fresh nutrition, we focused on supporting full-body wellness and more stable behavior from the inside out. Bella is now fully transitioned to a fresh food diet and is thriving.<br/><br/>From there, she was supported through carefully planned, slow, and respectful introductions designed to help her feel safe and confident around other dogs. These gradual, trust building experiences focused on pairing her with calm, emotionally stable dogs who would not react to her insecure communication.<br/><br/>Through this thoughtful process, Bella made wonderful progress, and in a beautiful full-circle moment, her very first real dog friend turned out to be a gentle 150-pound boy. Their interactions are closely supervised and limited to short, positive sessions to ensure Bella continues to feel safe, successful, and supported. This careful approach has helped her build confidence while honoring her boundaries.<br/><br/>Over the holidays, Bella enjoyed a little vacation at a river house with human friends, where she fit right in, had the best time, and even rocked a cute bathing suit. <br/><br/>Bella is incredibly smart and eager to learn. She already knows sit, down, stay, come, spin, touch, focus, and wait. She thrives with mental and physical enrichment and loves having a job to do.<br/><br/>She is also a certified blanket thief! If there is a basket of blankets, Bella will happily take them out one by one and wrap herself up in each, creating her own little cozy nest. <br/><br/>This energetic girl is full of personality and joy. She’s a little firecracker who loves to run, play, and soak up life with her people. And let’s be honest, it’s hard to beat her on cuteness.<br/><br/>Bella came to CARE from a southwestern Virginia shelter. She is 5 years old and fully grown at 25 pounds . Bella’s devotion to her humans is unmatched, and meeting new human friends is always cause for celebration! Expect zoomies and lavish smooches! As for other animals, Bella is tends to be reactive. Our handler feels that Bella may have experienced past trauma, and possibly been attacked by another animal. As a result, Bella has developed a defensive behavior towards other animals. It is important that Bella’s new home provides her with a secured fenced yard to run and play in. She will reward her lucky adopterswith many years of love, devotion, great joy! She is a sweet, friendly, happy girl who simply wants a home and humans of her own. Bella is the ultimate companion with a big heart and amazing spirit.<br/><br/>Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Petfinder inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of Bella as well as our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with your family and Bella at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting her and determining that she matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner.
