BEAUTY's Story
Beauty is a sensitive, intelligent dog who is making steady progress as she adjusts to shelter life. She has moderate hip dysplasia and severe arthritis in her left knee, conditions that require lifelong pain management, joint supplements, and regular veterinary monitoring. She is currently on anti-inflammatory medication and may need additional pain control as her comfort level changes. Because of her orthopedic needs, she is best suited for a rescue or an adopter experienced with long-term mobility and pain care. In the shelter, Beauty is nervous but increasingly comfortable with familiar handlers. She is beginning to allow leashing, enjoys gentle walks, and seeks out affection once she feels safe. Her fearful reactivity is improving with consistent, patient handling, and she is showing notable behavioral progress as she builds trust. Beauty becomes especially affectionate once she is outside in a calm area. She rubs on staff for attention, approaches people politely, accepts full-body petting, and greets new faces with growing confidence. She continues to show day-by-day improvement—becoming braver at the kennel door, more willing to approach, and more responsive during walks. She also appears relaxed and social when spending time outside with another dog she knows. Due to her chronic orthopedic condition and ongoing need for medical management, Beauty is best placed with a rescue or adopter who can provide consistent support and help her continue building confidence. With patience, experience, and steady guidance, she'll continue to blossom!

Adoptions are free and include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving with you. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.
