Beatrix's Story

Beatrix / F / 11Y / 6lbs / Chihuahua / Fostered in Owen Sound

If you're looking for a snuggly little shadow to curl up with under a blanket, look no further than Beatrix! This pint-sized pup is equal parts lovable and hilarious, and she is ready to find her forever couch.

Beatrix's favourite pastime? Being with her people — whether that means following you from room to room, sneaking inside your shirt for a nap (yes, really, through the neck hole!), or simply snoozing beside you. She's a true lap dog through and through, low energy and deeply devoted to the humans she loves. She also gives the absolute best kisses. She has been fine up to 8 hours alone with access to pee pads.

She's a cautious girl at first, but she warms up quickly and loves hard once she does. She's been a great student in her foster home, learning so much from the other small dogs there, and she picks up new things fast. She's sleeping through the night in her crate like a champ and is well on her way with potty training — she just needs a patient home willing to keep up the routine as she settles in. She prefers couch cuddles over walks - she's up for a few 10 minute walks but she prefers to be carried around.

A couple of things to know about Beatrix: she can be a little grumpy when woken up or picked up — she may growl or gently place her mouth on your hand, though she has never bitten with any force. She gets over it quickly! She also isn't a fan of the vacuum, loud noises, the cold, or wearing clothes (truly a dog of culture). Because of her sensitivity around handling, she would do best in a home with older children or adults only who understand her boundaries. She is tolerant of cats.

Beatrix's ideal home:
- Someone who loves a velcro dog
- A calm, patient environment
- Another small dog would be a bonus, but she could be an only pet - she is afraid of larger dogs
- Adults or older children only
- She is very quiet and would do well in a house or apartment

Beatrix has a grade 2 heart murmur that requires no medication at this time. During her spay, a mammary mass was removed and biopsied. It was identified as a Grade 1 adenocarcinoma with clean margins, which means there is very low risk of metastasis or regrowth. No further treatment is recommended, though her new family should monitor closely for any new masses. She also had dental while in our care and only has a few remaining teeth.

If you're ready for a silly, snuggly little soul who will be your permanent shadow and best blanket buddy, Beatrix might just be your perfect match. 🐾

Submit an adoption application on our website!
