We will change her status to adopted when she is adopted.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt Bea before we will schedule a meet and greet. We do not transport our dogs.

*AGE: approximately 4 ½ years (born May 2021)

*WEIGHT: 51 pounds

*ALLERGIES: Chicken/poultry

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and yard are recommended. No shock collars or electronic/ invisible fences will be considered, as we do not feel these would set her up for success.

*COAT TYPE: Super soft, wavy/curly, lower-shedding coat. Adopter should be prepared to brush her coat often if they choose to let her coat grow out, and have her groomed regularly with an estimated cost of $100/groom. She was very matted upon intake and was shaved down; see her photos for the ‘before’ pictures.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Medium energy. She would do best with daily exercise. She does jump a little when she’s excited/you’re just returning home, but she is quick to listen when you ask her to stay down. She is very snuggly, and when you are settling down, she will be at your side. She does a good job of matching your energy.

*DOGS: Yes! She previously lived with four other dogs for about 6-8 months without issues. She is currently living without any other doggy companions. In situations when she has been around other dogs, she has been friendly without any evidence of aggression.

*CATS: Previous owner stated she grew up with cats and gets along with them. There are no cats in the foster home to confirm.

*KIDS: Yes! Previous owners stated she’s not had any issues and is gentle. She used to sleep with an 11 year old girl every night.

*CAR: Yes! She does very well in the car; no issues.

*CRATE: Yes! She is well crated trained. She’s crated when no one is home (in the foster situation, this is about 6-8 hours on weekdays). She will sometimes put herself in her crate at times when she is maybe nervous or afraid. While fostered, she sleeps on a blanket on the floor. She did not love sleeping in the crate, so allowing her to sleep on the floor was a transition in response to her needs.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes. Initially, she had difficulty becoming comfortable going potty outside with her foster. This was suspected to be due to the change in how she was taken outside. Previously, she was let out to potty in a fenced in backyard and not on leash. In her foster home there isn’t a fence so she was taken outside on leash. With this, she had a few pee accidents if Bea and I were inside and something scared her. Every day this has occurred less and less and she is more comfortable going potty outside on the leash. She is a quick learner!

*LEASH: Excellent! She walks with a collar or harness. She does not pull in the slightest. She is an excellent walker. Initially, she seemed like she was always on alert, however, mainly watching me and following me (foster momma). The more time we have spent together she is relaxing more and letting herself smell the roses!

*AT VET CLINIC: Bea does ok at the vet. She was scared initially and also in pain due to her severe ear infections and still allowed the staff to touch her ears.

*WITH GROOMING: She was an angel while she was being groomed and was shaved down due to severe matting.

Bea is a very easy to love 4 1/2 year old female Goldendoodle who weighs 51 lbs. She was surrendered a family who took her in as a result of a death in the family (her first owner). She is a VERY sweet girl who will love you forever.
We believe Bea likely has a chicken/poultry allergy. Her former owner wasn’t able to feeding her separately from their other Doodles and, as a result, it was difficult to get her bilateral ear infections under control. Her ear infections were severe; the vet has her ears well on their way to being clear.

Bea is a very sweet, lovey, and snuggly girl. She loves belly rubs, butt scratches, and being close to you. At times, she can be timid, but is never aggressive. Even when her ear infections were severe, she would let me touch and manipulate her ears to get medication in. She does not typically bark; she may bark occasionally if she sees someone in the distance or when meeting a new human.

It took her a week or so to adjust to the foster home; she is getting more and more comfortable every day. It is just the foster momma and Bea at home, and she has become attached and does not like to leave her side. Bea would even cry while her foster momma was in the shower because she missed her. It is possible the physical attachment would lighten up over time, however as she gets more and more used to her environment and trusts her freedom.

I think she would do best with a family that could spend a good amount of time at home with her. I think she would love added companionship whether this is because there are additional dogs around or kids to keep her company.
Initially, to get her to eat her foster would entice her with adding plain, low fat Greek yogurt to her food and at times some peanut butter. More recently, she has eating her food without the need to add anything.

Adjectives that describe Bea:
*Gentle
*Cuddly
*Submissive
*Sweet
*Excitable
*Loving
*Timid occasionally with new people and situations

Activities she enjoys:
-Eating treats
-Walks
-Snuggles
-Playing

A few “needs work” items for Bea:
*becoming more confident; she needs continued socialization and exposure to the world
*she could be better about jumping up once excited (though she is good about listening when asked to stop)

The ideal type of home for Bea:
-fenced yard where she is able to run and play
-the more time the owner(s) can be home/spend time with Bea, the merrier for her.
-Owners who are love to snuggle with her (it's her favorite!)
-owner who is able to walk and ensure her exercise needs are met. She’s more medium than high energy but still needs walks and playtime
-a family who can keep monitoring and help maintain healthy ears (likely including regular cleaning to ensure she does not develop future ear infections)

Bea seems like she would do well in any household that can spend time with her and be part of the family. She’ll whine/cry a little bit when a person leaves, or is out of sight (i.e., in shower). She has not exhibited any signs of aggressive behavior.

Bea is spayed, microchipped, current on core vaccines and house and crate trained. Her heartworm test was negative. She was positive for hookworms on her fecal test and is finishing a course of a dewormer. She had a recent follow up fecal test which was negative. She has also been on strong antibiotics (oral and ear solution) to help clear up her previous very severe ear infections. She had a recent vet check with great progress, and will return to the vet in a few weeks for hopefully her final ear check. Her ears will need to be monitored/cleaned on a regular basis to ensure she doesn’t continue having ear infections.

ADOPTION FEE: $550 adoption fee

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies and highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting and expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board and train costs, medical/health issues and surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees and our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR BEA-INDIANA, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application
