Baxter (Scar)'s Story
Meet Baxter! 🐾🤎

Baxter is, in his foster's words, "just so dang cute," and it's hard to argue with that. This handsome boy is smart and well-mannered, and has quickly become one of his foster family's all-time favorite fosters. They have fostered a lot, so that is really saying something for Baxter!

He settled into his foster home immediately, getting along wonderfully with the other dogs and even the cat. Baxter is house-trained, dog-door trained, walks nicely on a leash, and has great manners around food. He respectfully gives other pets their space at mealtime. He's also a great sleeper and loves being close to his people... very close.

Baxter is what his foster lovingly calls a "lopper," a very enthusiastic face licker. With a little training, he's turned into more of an "air lopper," but the affection is still very real. He's also a 50-pound cuddle bug who has absolutely no concept of personal space. Couch, chair, bed... if you're there, he's there too.

He's a confident and obedient dog who responds well to training and enjoys having something to do. He's especially motivated by food (he would happily eat three meals in a row if you let him), and he loves toys, especially stuffed ones.

Baxter keeps a close eye on his surroundings and will let you know when someone new shows up at the door. After that initial "hey, who's that?" moment, he's right back to being his loving, welcoming self.

One of Baxter's favorite things? Swimming. He LOVES the water and would thrive in a home that can offer him outdoor adventures, playtime, and plenty of enrichment. Baxter has been off-leash and boundary trained and has excellent recall, but he will need continued training and consistency with his new family before being trusted off-leash.

His ideal home is one where he's truly part of the family. He's not a dog for being left alone for long periods or kept on the sidelines. He's looking for a home full of love, attention, activity, and companionship from both people and other animals.

Think Baxter might be your match?
