Baxter's Story
Say hello to Baxter! This handsome pup is simply happy living and loving life. He has a joyful disposition that is infectious, and he's sure to provide endless smiles in his future home.

Baxter has been living in a foster home and really showing off what an awesome addition he will be to a loving family. At just over one year old, he is a bit silly and goofy, yet he checks all the boxes of a much more mature dog:
-Crate trained - rests quietly left alone during the day
-Housebroken - picked up the potty routine right away
-Independent - does great keeping to his own things when unsupervised
-Self entertains - he needs to look no further than his toy bin for entertainment
-Big heart - hugs are life, and he's very engaging and affectionate with his people
-Listens well - he is also very food motivated which makes for a great training partner
-Good walking companion - his leash manners are coming along nicely and he has almost no reactivity to squirrels, ducks, deer, etc.
-Makes a great co-pilot - car rides are a breeze

He’s a sweet, social pup who may be a little cautious when first meeting new people — but give him a chance to warm up, and he quickly blossoms into a joyful greeter, welcoming you with full-body wiggles and an irresistibly earnest, heart-melting smile.

He would enjoy an active, fun-loving home where he can have plenty of adventures and play time - he has been an eager participant in our run clubs too. But once he has a chance to get out some yayas, he's happy to sit together and watch the world go by and soak up some snuggles.

Within the silly puppy exterior is a bright mind ... he listens well and is really shining with routine in his foster home. He already offers the proudest of sits when asked, and is working on stay, down and paw. With other dogs in play group, he was social, and he has been curious and friendly towards other dogs in passing.

Baxter weighs 55 beefy, ridiculously handsome pounds. Visit www.tinyurl.com/meetacitydog to set up a meet!

Visit: 9203 Detroit Avenue Cleveland, OH 44102

Fee: $61 | Includes spay/neuter, shots, microchip, license,

The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be.

Our Adoption Process...
Here's a little about how things work:
All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. You must schedule a meet with a dog in advance - we are not currently accepting walk-ins. Please look online first to see if there are any dogs you think would be a good fit for your home before scheduling a meet. To get the process started, visit www.tinyurl.com/meetacitydog and fill out the form. One of our adoption counselors will get in touch to schedule and confirm your meet! At the kennel, an adoption counselor will introduce you and your family to the adoptable dogs, share information we know about them, and discuss our suggested ways for successfully integrating a new dog into your home. You are welcome to meet multiple dogs. If the dog you adopt is already fixed, he or she may leave with you that day - otherwise, the dog can go home after receiving the spay or neuter surgery.)

About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through a behavioral and medical assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. We cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog once they are in the home. Most of our dogs are picked up as strays, so we do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if most of them are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. We do have some dogs in foster homes, where they will have more information about how the dog is in a home environment. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption.

Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within two weeks of leaving the kennel. All dogs receive their DAPPL, Rabies, and Bordatella vaccines, though you may be required to get follow up boosters. All dogs come microchipped and with a Cuyahoga County license.
