Basil

On 4-16-25, an injured pitbull puppy, male, tan, est DOB 1-10-25, was brought to Northwood on emergency. He had been hit by a car the day before and was in obvious pain. He had been seen the week before to treat a bite wound on side of his face. This time he was not using his left rear leg. Radiographs showed midshaft fracture of his tibia and fibula. Incidentally, there was a bullet noted in his rump. This poor little guy had a rough start to life. <br/>The owners decided they could not care for Basil and relinquished him to the hospital for care. A splint was placed on his left rear legs. Since he is a young puppy, he should heal well. Vaccines were started as was deworming. He had a heavy flea and tick infestation that was addressed. He has been neutered and microchipped. <br/>Basil’s fracture healed, but we noticed, once out of the splint, that his left patella was luxating (popping out of socket) very easily. Unknown if this was a result of how his fracture healed, or a congenital weakness in the knee that predates the fracture. <br/>Basil had surgery June 12th to repair the luxating patella. He was adopted and went to his new home on June 17th with post surgical instruction. He seemed to heal well on follow up visits. <br/>We didn’t see him again until Dec. 7th when his owner returned him to CARE. She was moving into a new apartment and was not allowed to have a Pitbull. <br/>We aren’t sure how much pitbull is actually in Basil. He is only 30lbs at 11 months of age. He has a funny shape to his nose, not what you would expect with a pitbull. Would guess he is some sort of Terrier mix? <br/>He gets along well on repaired leg. He loves to go on walks. <br/>If you are willing to give Basil a forever home, please come meet him.
