Barry Manilow's Story

This young dog came into rescue months ago with multiple medical issues to be addressed. He had been found by a police officer after being abandoned in a remote fishing area. It was bad enough that he had been abandoned but there was a PRONG COLLAR embedded into his neck! It is our guess that some "owner" had adopted him as a mere puppy and tried to train him using the prong collar. Barry, being the energetic pup that he most assuredly was, spent more time making the prongs stand up than was expected and eventually, having pressed into his neck so often. they penetrated the skin and simply stayed erect. The collar was then left for what looked like months and as the puppy grew, it and all the prongs grew into Barry's neck. When he was found, he also had a heavy chain attached to the collar. The prong collar was surgically removed and required an additional surgery after removal.
Barry is now completely healed from this injury and ready to make someone a great companion.
Positive things to consider are his overall good health, age and demeanor. Barry is super friendly and now wears a permanent smile on his face, always ready for belly rubs and to give you kisses in return. He is in tip top condition and ready to hike, run, jog, walk, hunt -- anything an outdoors person could possibly want. However, in his quest to love and be loved, he first presents as overly exuberant which makes him less than perfect for homes with small children or older adults. Although we are consistently working with him on his issues, growing up on a chain causes him to "lunge" and "pull" some as he is walked.

This is an excellent dog that deserves a chance at having excellent humans in his life, not the kind that he knew before coming to Sweetpups. He is beauty on four legs, love in a furry package, and music to the ears with his hound voice. Barry can write the songs that make your heart smile or at least add another verse! Are you passionate about dogs? Are you looking for one you can give a better life to?
