Barrett's Story
Thank you for choosing to adopt or foster and aid in the rescue efforts of RARE!

**Adoption Interest Form REQUIRED via our website Rarerescue.org**

Meet Barrett!

Barrett is a wonderful 4½-year-old Wirehaired Terrier mix who weighs about 55 pounds and stands around 30 inches tall. He’s an extremely friendly, happy, and animated dog whose tail is always wagging! Barrett loves to play and has a fun, energetic personality, but he also knows how to relax and settle down beautifully in the house. He especially loves his stuffy toys! He's a bark box type of dog and loves to carry various toys around the house.

He’s been an absolute joy in his foster home. He rides like a champ in the car (nothing makes him happier than sticking his head out the window!), sleeps soundly through the night, and always lets you know when he needs to go outside. He’s completely house-trained and has never had a single accident. Barrett doesn’t jump on furniture, but he adores his big, comfy dog beds—one in the bedroom and one in the office—so he can always be near his people. He’s a loyal, constant companion who loves being in sight of you.

Barrett makes a great little guard dog, too—he’ll bark to alert you when someone comes to the door, but once you introduce the visitor, he quickly settles down.

He’s very smart and eager to please—he already runs to the door when you say, “Want to go outside?” and would thrive in a home with a fenced-in backyard where he can run, play, and chase chipmunks or squirrels (though he’s never caught one yet!).

Barrett enjoys long walks, but he can get a bit excited when he sees other dogs—he may bark and pull toward them. With the help of a training collar, he’s made great progress and is doing much better, but he’ll need someone committed to continuing his leash training to help him feel more confident on walks.

He’d be the perfect fit for an active family with older children (around 8–10 and up) or for adults who enjoy being outdoors—walking, hiking, or simply spending time with a loyal, affectionate companion. Barrett is ready to give all his love to a family who will give him the care, consistency, and affection he deserves.

Complete an adoption application at rarerescue.org if you would like to see if Barrett may be the one for you!

STEPS TO ADOPT:

Read the adoptable’s bio below, including their adoption fee

Go to RARErescue.org and Read our ADOPTION PROCESS page under the "Adopt" section

Complete the DOG ADOPTION INTEREST FORM (located on our website RARErescue.org)

We understand that it is important to you to find the right fit for your family. We feel the same way! The DOG ADOPTION INTEREST FORM is important and REQUIRED for this reason.

All of our Adoptables are:

Spayed/neutered; Up to date on vaccines; Heartworm tested if six months or older (& kept on heartworm preventative and treated for heartworms if positive when entering our program): Microchipped prior to adoption

BREEDS: We are not breed experts. The breed(s) listed for each adoptable are best guesses or suggestions.

PLEASE NOTE: We are a non-profit organization without municipal or government funding. Veterinary/Medical expenses are constant for an animal rescue. Our adoption fees not only help to provide vetting and care for the animal being adopted, but they also help to cover heartworm treatments and other treatable ailments that many animals, that would otherwise be euthanized, need in order to be made available for adoption.

Please understand that adopting an animal is a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to that animal and there will be veterinary expenses throughout their life that can often cost several hundreds, if not thousands of dollars (without pet insurance), especially without annual checkups and preventative care. As a potential family for this pet you are responsible for their safety and that includes keeping them on your property.

***If you are not in the middle Tennessee area, transport can potentially be arranged to approved homes, depending on distance and local adaptability. We normally do not allow adoptions outside of 1.5 hours driving distance.
