Barolo's Story

Meet Barolo! A tiny gentleman!

Male | 8lbs | 3 months | UTD on shots | From Antigua | Good with dogs and older dog savvy children

Background

Barolo is a tiny island gentleman with a big personality, rescued all the way from Antigua and already making himself right at home. At just 3 months old, he’s in his “curious explorer” era—taking in the world, learning quickly, and charming everyone he meets.

Personality

Since arriving in foster care, Barolo has really come out of his shell. He’s grown more confident, playful, and expressive, showing off his sweet and observant nature. He’s the kind of pup who watches everything closely, figures things out fast, and then surprises you with how clever he is. Bonus: he’s already got a way of “talking” to his humans with the cutest little sounds when he needs something!
Background

Ideal Home

Barolo is looking for a home where he can be someone’s little sidekick. He loves companionship and would be happiest with people who enjoy having a loyal buddy close by.
He’s a great match for first-time dog owners thanks to his adaptable, easygoing personality. Whether you live in an apartment or a house, Barolo is happy as long as he gets his daily dose of walks, playtime, and attention.
Socially, he’s off to a great start—he gets along well with other dogs and is considered safe with cats and small animals. While he hasn’t officially met children yet, his calm and friendly demeanor suggests he could do well with gentle, respectful kids.
He can be a little cautious when meeting new people at first, but give him a moment (and maybe a kind word or two), and he’ll warm up into the sweet, affectionate pup he truly is.

Training and Activity

Barolo is a smart cookie and already building an impressive résumé! He knows commands like sit, stay, stop, and even shake paw—yes, he will absolutely show off for treats.
He’s doing great with pee pad training and is continuing to make progress with his potty routine. He’s also learning patience (especially around food—very important life skill!) and settling nicely into a daily rhythm.
Energy-wise, Barolo is the perfect mix of playful and chill. He gets bursts of zoomies in the morning and after meals, followed by long stretches of relaxing, observing, and recharging. About 30–60 minutes of daily exercise keeps him happy. He also enjoys entertaining himself with toys—independent play champion in the making!
He’s crate trained and sleeps in his crate overnight like a pro, even letting you know in the early morning when it’s time to go out. When left alone, he may protest a little at first (a few whines to say “hey, where’d you go?”), but he settles fairly quickly.
On leash, he’s still polishing his skills—he may pull now and then, but nothing unmanageable. His recall is solid, especially if snacks are involved (which, let’s be honest, is the best motivation).
Like many young pups, Barolo isn’t a fan of loud noises like vacuums or thunder. When startled, he may retreat and look to his humans for reassurance—but once he knows he’s safe, he bounces right back.

Summary

Barolo is a bright, affectionate, and slightly chatty little pup who’s equal parts playful adventurer and cozy companion. With his quick learning, gentle nature, and growing confidence, he’s well on his way to becoming an incredible lifelong friend. He’d thrive in a loving home that can continue guiding him as he grows—offering patience, playtime, and plenty of cuddles.

If you’re looking for a smart, sweet, and endearingly expressive puppy who will keep you smiling (and occasionally “talk back” in the cutest way), Barolo might just be your perfect match.

NOTE: All adoption applicants must be residents of Ontario, Canada to be considered.

Ready to give Rosie the forever home she deserves and a second chance at happiness?

Apply now: http://seapawsrescue.org/adoptionApplication.html

Sea Paws Rescue's Adoption Policy
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. All adult members of the household must attend the adoption interview. We prefer that applicants have lived at their current address for at least three months. This is to make sure that owners have had time to settle into their new surroundings, and provides stability for the new pup who themselves have already undergone multiple changes in a short time. Because young puppies require intensive training and care, we do not place puppies younger than 8 weeks of age in a home. Because of potential behavior/training concerns, we are very cautious when placing young pets in homes with children under the age of five. If applicants have another animal at home, they must introduce the animals properly. We want to make sure that their animal is happy with their selection and that the transition for both animals' will be relatively smooth. All adopters must take the animal to a veterinarian within one week of adoption as Sea Paws Rescue (SPR) does not screen for all diseases including, but not limited to, tick fever and heartworm. All further examinations and immunizations from the date of the adoption are at the adopter’s own expense. SPR makes no health guarantees or warranties. All adopters must understand that there will be an adjustment period and their pet may experience behavioural and/or health issues related to the change in environment. Adopters must seek professional assistance from a trainer and/or licensed veterinarian if they have concerns about issues related to the adjustment period. If at any time, for any reason, a SPR adopter decides not to keep their animal, they agree to return the animal back to a Sea Paws Rescue representative. Under no circumstance will the adopter surrender a SPR animal to a local shelter. In the event of a rehoming, no part of the adoption fee will be reimbursed.
