Their entire litter was found as strays, picked up and ended up in a high kill shelter. Their entire litter was rescued by a partner rescue located in Mission, and 3 of that litter were transferred to us here at the Lower Mainland Humane Society. <br/><br/>Needless to say, they have never had the pleasure of living in a home as so far, their entire lives have been on the streets or in shelters. <br/><br/>Here at LMHS they are least have property to play and run with each other, but they need to be segregated from other dogs because Barnaby is very fearful and reactive to other dogs except his sister Cindy. Cindy has been good meeting and being able to play with other dogs. <br/><br/><br/><br/>Cindy is very affectionate and friendly with people. Barnaby is nervous of strangers and it takes him some time to trust a new human (approx an hour or so). Once he knows you won't hurt him, he is truly a love muffin. Barnaby likely would be best in a child free home. Even though he could bond with a child, his fear or strangers at first might make a young child nervous <br/><br/>Because they have been in shelter environments most of their lives, they are still working on their house training, and need a patient home, that will take them out often, and provide lots of praise for their good behavior. They do learn fast. <br/><br/>Barnaby and Cindy LOVE country life, and would do best in a setting such as a hobby farm, with full fencing and cross fencing. They'd prefer to just burn off their energy on the land with their people nearby gardening or working and they absolutely love being little farm hands!<br/><br/>Walking Barnaby can be stressful for both him and his human because he is reactive to other dogs and strangers. But trust me when I tell you that he truly is one of the most loving little guys I've ever met. <br/><br/>They do have separation anxiety and cannot be left alone outside. They can and will jump a 6 foot fence just to get to you if you leave them. They never want to be abandoned again..<br/><br/>Inside the home, they should be crated when you go out, and they are fine being in a crate for a few hours at a time. They can be destructive due to their anxiety and being in a crate is the safest for them. <br/><br/>Barnaby tends to be a bit food possessive with other dogs, including with Cindy over high value treats. <br/><br/>Both dogs have been at LMHS since March 2026, with zero offers of fostering. It's time for them to find the home they deserve. <br/><br/>Because Barnaby is a hard placement, and is very bonded to Cindy, we have decided to make<br/>Their adoption fee by donation to the right patient home. <br/><br/>Please help them get out of shelter life, because despite some behavioral issues, they are such wonderful little pals. <br/><br/>Both dogs have been spayed and neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, flea treated.<br/><br/>Looking for adopters within the Lower Mainland or Fraser Valley areas. <br/><br/>An adoption application and home visit is required.
