Bao's Story

Bao is believed to be a 7 month old Shar-pei. Boa is adorable with his wrinkly face and big teddy bear muzzle. He is snuggly, funny and inquisitive. He is a roly poly little boy that loves people, other dogs and would probably irritate a cat trying to play with it.

Background: Bao found himself in a local shelter with a leg injury. Xrays revealed a break to his knee. He spent over a month in the shelter waiting for a rescue to choose him. When we finally picked him up, our vet said that the injury was too old for corrective surgery. So there was 2 options: Amputation or strict crate rest and see if the leg would heal itself. He had 2 months of crate rests. Two more sets of xray and several veterinarians opinions later... Our veterinarian says that his leg has healed better than expected.

We are recommending that he go to a person/family with some breed experience/ knowledge: Shar-Pei are known to have health conditonal including but not limited:

Skin problems: Issues, such as pyoderma (a bacterial skin infection), can occur as a result of the breed's excess skin folds.
Ear problems: The breed often has a very narrow ear canal and that can lead to yeast and bacterial infections.
Eye problems: Conditions that affect this breed's eyes can include Dry eye, entropion (rolling in of the eyelids), glaucoma, and cherry eye.
Shar-pei fever: This breed-specific condition causes the dog to develop a high fever, swelling of the hock joint, lethargy, and bouts of vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Adoption fee $300 includes spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and tested negative for heartworms.
To fill out an application visit https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/33868/generic
