Banana's Story

Meet Banana Bread, aka BB!

Banana Bread is a 4-year-old, 8-pound Pomeranian who would very much like to be included in whatever you're doing.

When BB first arrived in foster care, she was pretty cautious around new people. She needed time to figure out who she could trust and wasn't particularly interested in rushing that process.

Well, apparently she's been reconsidering her position on strangers.

She's come such a long way, and it's been really fun watching her little personality come out.

On a recent restaurant outing, BB actually started hopping into people's laps asking for pets. This is the same little dog who used to hang back and observe everyone before deciding whether to approach. Now she's helping herself to affection.

It's funny how these little moments can mean so much. For a dog who was once unsure about new people, watching her feel comfortable enough to approach someone on her own is a pretty big deal. And the best part is that she seems to be enjoying her newfound social life!

She's also turning out to be a wonderful little companion for outings. BB loves her carrier bag and will happily settle into it while you're at a coffee shop or restaurant. She's calm, content, and perfectly happy hanging out while you enjoy your meal. Of course, if there's an opportunity to get out and sit on someone's lap, she'll consider that too.

She's a great size for bringing along on errands, and she enjoys car rides, walks, and being out with her person. BB has medium energy, so she's happy to go exploring but also enjoys hanging out at home.

One thing you should know about BB is that she really, really likes food. She's not terribly difficult to convince when snacks are involved, which has been helpful with training. For an 8-pound dog, she has a pretty impressive appetite.

She currently lives with two large dogs and does well with both dogs and cats. She doesn't mind sharing her home with other animals, although she'd prefer not to share all the attention. Fair enough.

And BB's progress hasn't just been about making new friends. She's been growing up in other little ways, too.

Potty training was something she needed help with, and she's improved so much! She's pee-pad trained and has been making great strides with her house-training habits. She's not quite finished learning, but she's heading in the right direction.

Another big change has been how she's handling time away from her person. BB is a very affectionate little dog, and when she loves someone, she really loves them. Being apart hasn't always been easy for her, but she's getting better at it. She's learning that she can be okay on her own and that her favorite human will come back.

That might sound like a small thing, but for BB, it's a big accomplishment.

She's still working on crate training and will need someone willing to keep up the routines that have been helping her.

What's been especially sweet about watching BB grow is that she hasn't lost any of her affectionate personality. She's still the little dog who wants to be close to you. She's just becoming more comfortable with the world around her and a little more confident in herself.

Although she's becoming much more outgoing, we'd still prefer a home without young children. She's happiest in a calmer environment where she can continue building that confidence.

BB doesn't need a particularly exciting life. We think she'd be delighted with someone who likes going for walks, grabbing coffee, meeting friends for lunch, or just spending a quiet afternoon at home. She's happiest when she gets to be part of the day.

And considering how much she's changed already, we have a feeling there's still a lot more of Banana Bread's personality waiting to come out.

She's sweet, she's funny, she's getting braver every day, and she's apparently decided that restaurant patrons make excellent friends.

If you've ever wanted a tiny brunch companion who brings her own chair (well, carrier bag), Banana Bread is available.

To meet BB, please fill out an adoption application:

https://www.welcomehomesanctuary.org/adoption-application
