Bailey 36's Story

Bailey became a MAESSR girl when she would resource guard treats and high value items from the other four dogs in her Pennsylvania household. Her parents did not think that this behavior was safe for the young children in the family. So, they relinquished her to MAESSR.

Housetrained, Bailey jumps off of the couch and goes to back door when she wants to go out. Although her foster mom initially crated her, since Bailey has proved to be trustworthy, this little Cocker is given free run of the house when her foster mom goes out. She is fed in her crate and then whines to get out.

At night Bailey sleeps in bed with her foster mom and the resident dogs and usually does well. Bailey is not good with resident dogs when she and her foster mom are seated next to each other on the couch. Dogs are not allowed in the kitchen in her foster home, so Bailey does not get a chance to resource guard food from the resident dogs. In her former home, Bailey never guarded food from the resident cats.

Very well-mannered in the house, Bailey does not chew inappropriately and is happily allowed on the furniture and bed. She loves hanging out on the sofa next to her foster mom but is also comfortable curling up on one of the dog beds.

Bailey knows basic commands like “sit” and “come.” She is always open to stop and talk to neighbors and greet other dogs while out on a walk or a hike in the woods. She loves to go for a nice car ride, too. Bailey has not initiated play with resident dogs, yet, and so far, her favorite toy is a tennis ball. She throws them around herself and then pounces on them.

While at the vet’s office, Bailey initiated contact with humans, dogs, and cats and was a super girl. The vet reported that she did great when she stayed overnight for her dental extractions. She hasn’t needed to go to the groomer yet but probably would be fine at the spa.

For peace in her forever home, Bailey would like to be an only dog, but she would enjoy having a cat or a rabbit for a friend. If you want a dog smaller than a Springer to take for walks and curl next to you on the couch or bed, consider bringing Bailey into your family!
