Babette in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania's Story

Some dogs wear their hearts on their sleeves. Babette keeps hers tucked away until she knows you're someone she can trust.
This beautiful chocolate Havanese has the most soulful eyes you've ever seen and a quiet, gentle nature. When Babette first arrived in foster care, she was deeply shut down and unsure of the world around her. With patience, kindness, and time, she has slowly begun to blossom. Watching her learn to trust has been one of the most rewarding experiences her foster family has had.
Babette is not the type of dog who will come racing to the door when you get home or immediately curl up in your lap. She prefers to quietly observe the world from the safety of her favorite fuzzy donut bed, taking everything in at her own pace. Once she feels safe, though, you'll discover her sweet little routines. Every morning she enjoys gentle belly rubs before starting her day, and she's even learned that sleeping in a big bed with her people is one of life's greatest comforts.
She gets along well with calm, respectful dogs but isn't a fan of pushy, overly exuberant canine companions. A laid-back resident dog would be a wonderful role model, but she would also enjoy simply sharing her home with another gentle dog who respects her space.
Babette has learned to wear a harness and is comfortable being picked up by people she knows. She is not yet comfortable walking on a leash and will often freeze, so a securely fenced yard is required. She enjoys spending time outdoors and even has her favorite potty spot on the driveway. She is making steady progress with housetraining, although she still has occasional accidents and may mark in a new environment while she adjusts.
One of Babette's cutest quirks is her daily play session with a crinkle toy. Once a day she'll happily shake it, toss it into the air, and repeat the performance before settling back into her favorite cozy spot.
Babette is very food motivated, which has helped build her confidence and will continue to be a wonderful training tool for her future family.
Her ideal home is a quiet, patient one where life moves at a gentle pace. She will need adopters who understand that trust isn't rushed—it is earned. If you're looking for an instant lap dog, Babette probably isn't the right match. But if you're willing to let a shy little soul unfold in her own time, she will reward you with something truly special.
Babette's foster mom says it best:
"Winning her heart will take some time, but the reward will renew your faith in the power of patience, love, and acceptance."
If you believe the deepest bonds are worth waiting for, Babette may be the perfect companion for you.
Babette is up-to-date on all medical. Her adoption fee is $350 and her adoption will take place in her foster home in New Cumberland, PA. She is approximately 14 lbs.
