Axel's Story

Meet Axel!

Axel is a gorgeous 4-year-old, 83-pound male Lab that came to Save a Lab Rescue a few months ago, after having spent most of his life outside. He is now house trained, and crate trained but still working on some of his manners. He is trying to be the best leash walker he can be (but still needs some work!). He loves people and absolutely loves to retrieve. He would fetch a ball for hours!

Axel is medium energy and loves to run and bound around the yard. He enjoys his walks and meeting new people, but Axel is nervous around other dogs. He’s not savvy in regard to social signals and often comes across as a bit rude! Axel doesn’t like to have other dogs in his space so we are looking for a home where he will be an only dog.

Axel was never taught what is appropriate to chew and what wasn’t, so while he is still learning, he is crated when his foster family is not home. He gets bored so it’s important that he has a bone that he can’t destroy in his crate. Like any Lab, he will rip apart a toy in no time flat!

Axel is looking for an active home where he can enjoy long walks or hikes and someone to play ball with him. He would love a fenced yard but that is not a deal breaker!

Axel is learning more and more each day and seems like he is figuring out how to be a member of the family. He would do best with adults or older kids but not little kids because of his size.

Axel is a beautiful dog who is still a work in progress but will be worth every bit of effort as he is inherently the most typical Lab you’ve ever met!

Axel will be available for adoption on, or after, January 16th, 2026

If you are interested in Axel and are an approved adopter, please contact your Adoption Coordinator to be added to Axel’s list. If you are a not yet approved, you can find our adoption guidelines and application at: www.savealabrescue.org

Axel will be fostered in RI
